A Murder of Crows

Hello all

I'm looking around for someone who's got some experience in RGB modding to give me a little assist here in getting the best out of my systems.

I currently have the following:

NES 1
NES 2
SNES
N64

I'd like to get the best picture i can out of each as well as any enhancements or improvements that can be made

My NES 1 is essentially just a board with a new 72pin connector.  It will need a new case one of these days...
My NES 2 is in excellent shape
My SNES is totally yellowed and will need a new case.  I'll be looking for one out there
My N64 is the Gold version.  Haven't checked if it was RGB-able yet, but if i remember right, it's not the right model.

I'm thinking NES to have "stereo" A/V mod with the ability to mix the sound from either side to both channels correctly, SVideo and RGB, and if possible, the ability to go "Back and forth" between PPUs for the incompatible games....though honestly, I doubt i'll ever own any of those

NES 2 needs the works.

SNES and N64, RGB and S/pdif mods.  Can't think of anything else worthwhile for these

i also still need to have a cable made for my Mitsu MegaView monitor to go to Scart...

Let me know?

NES 1 RGB mod requires a PPU from a Playchoice 10 board. That's what I have in mine and mine even has the channel mixing option like you described, yet it's not stereo (NES is mono). NES is not s-video capable to my knowledge.

NES2 is capable of an AV (composite video + mono audio via RCA connector) mod, but not RGB to my knowledge (though acem77 says it may be possible - again with a PPU from a Playchoice 10 board, but all NES RGB mods I ever heard of have really only been done on an NES1).

SNES is already RGB capable (and s-video capable). All you need is the appropriate cable. SNES2 (the smaller, lighter version released later) needs an RGB mod. N64 also requires an RGB mod. It may be as simple as adding 3 wires (one for R, G, and B) on the motherboard, or adding an amp to make the picture cleaner and not as dark.

The megaview (i used to have a 33" megaview) has BNC connectors, so your best option there is a BNC to VGA cable, and then some sort of SCART to VGA cable. You'll either have to make those yourself or find someone who will do it for you.

good luck!

Alright, so i'll amend my original requests as follows:

1. NES 1 RGB mod, channel mixing
2. NES 2 A/V mods, Vertical Line cleanup
3. SNES 1 Digital Audio mod (which i'll move to a different forum, with most of the other digital audio mod requests)
4. N64 (gold edition) RGB and Digital Audio Mod (i remember reading that this particular model was unable to get RGB due to nintendo taking it completely out)

I do not want to use the BNC connectors on my MegaView for RGB.  Instead, I'd like to use the nearly completely useless DB15-LD port (VGA 2).  The problem that i've had all this time is that i'm nearly completely incapable of the fine motor skills required to make such a cable.

I put out a request for that and though many people in this forum imply this is a do it yourself forum for any project, in my case, there were a couple of good guys that helped me. acem77 did my NES RGB mod (you will have to track down a Playchoice 10 board on your own - ebay is your best bet), and another guy (can't remember his name on here) provided me with the special 4-port SCART switchers with VGA on the end of them (I have 3 of them as of now). My solder skills suck and I have nerve damage in my hands (I can type, but precision things like soldering is a no go). Best of luck to you.
