Hey i know this probably sounds weird, but is it possible to hook a dvd player to a pc monitor ? Would it be similar/the same as hooking up a RGB console?

The easiest way would be to just buy a DVD player with a VGA output.  I've seen them around.  At least one Apex/Hiteker model has VGA out, there are bound to be others.  The problem finding them might be that every one I've seen that has had VGA out has been one of those weird chinese brands that is sold under many different names.  I've never seen or heard of a DVD player from a major brand that has VGA out.

As ido8bit said, just find a DVD player that has VGA/dvi-i outputs.  You can find a number of such models (not the apex he mentioned) here:

(it's from http://www.hivizone.com but here's a direct link to their dvd players)

https://www2.setssl.com/~hivizone/dvdplayer/main_frame.htm

There are other brands/models that they don't offer as well, such as V inc's Bravo DVD player (http://www.vinc.com/) but I've heard that depending on the production run, they have used DVI-D output cables, which proportedly don't have the pins wired for DVI->VGA analog capabilities.

You might also want to check out a site like http://avsforum.com/ to see what people there have to say about individual models in this class.  From what I've read, most, not being name brand, sometimes have poor build quality or need firmware updates or even a power supply or drive replacement (they all tend to use IDE dvd drives for PC's) to be made more reliable.  Then again, they also tend to have macrovision disabled, be region free, and some even upscan to higher output resolutions.   And well, $200 is probably about what you'd pay for a component -> VGA box anyway (albeit that's more generic and might find more widespread use with non DVD player components that aren't as easily VGAable [mmm, xbox?]).

FWIW my Skyworth 1050p was very cheap in Hong Kong, and has VGA progressive output, component, region-free, no macrovision, etc etc.  Very nice player, except for the horrible remote with stiff unresponsive buttons.  Uses a faroudja deinterlacer which, at least at the time, was one of the first to market with this high-end part, surprising many.  I definitely recommend it, as do pretty much all other reviewers.

Hey thanks for all the replies, ill look into it.
