Master System RGB

If I get an RGB-cable for a Mega Drive model I it should work on a Master System to right? But. Would it work on both the Master System-models? Thanks.

I've just bought a Master System II RGB model. It obviously came with the official RGB cable. The cable works fine on that model, but when I plug it in my Master System I, the screen fades to black.

Watch out though, I'm talking French models (PAL models if you prefere, but since the French models were the only one to orginally come with RGB cables...).
