XBOX Progressive via RGB on a supported monitor?

does anyone know if the xbox can send out progressive via RGB (SCART) connections?

My initial guess is no...but for sake of argument, if i have a compatible monitor, have adjusted/enabled progressive modes in the bios, is it possible to display them via BNC connectors by hacking an SCART cable?


My monitor is a Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 37, XC3730c

The Xbox does not do VGA without a BIOS hack.  MS disabled it for no other reason than not wanthing the system to be or be perceived as a PC.

The chip inside the xbox is perfectly capable of doing non-interlaced RGB, so if you do the BIOS hack, it should work.  I've never done it, I don't know how it works, if the cable needs to select the mode, etc.

V1.0/1.1 box = use ind-bios-5001-junkmonkey, some games will be green however.
V1.4-1.5 box = best version to have, use dr_oldschool's vga patched nkpatcher (softmod).Nkpatcher-vga doesn't have the problem of some games turning green and even has a force progressive mode for games that don't even work with component 480p.You can use the expoit coupled with a modchip however you'll need to either disable the modchip, or use Phoenix Bios Loader.
V1.6 = shit out of luck, at least until someone figures out the workings of MS's proprietary video encoder.

Keep in mind you'll need to open your cable and set it to HDTV mode, which you'll probably want to do via a switch so you can continue using RGB Scart.Also if your monitor does not sync-on-green you'll need a sync stripper in line with the green signal.

I've got a 1.6 as a main unit.....damn.


not using a modchip yet...only the softmod.  I'm going to have to hunt down a 1.5 box i guess....wanted one for the 128MB RAM mod anyway, but didn't think i'd need it so soon....

Guess i'm stuck with interlaced RGB for the time being.  thanx all

I currently use the NDure method.  I'll hunt down the nkpatcher.vga, but i was wondering if you knew if it was compatible with NDure.

Another option to consider is tracking down either a X2VGA or a Vdigi VD-Z3 Component Video to RGB Analog device. This shoud help somewhat.

In addition, I should note that in poking around on the motherboard I found the raw digital video signals (either Digital RGB or Digital Component) and they are always progressive (at least until it they arrive at the encoder chip). Unfortunately I just haven't got around to trying to find a chip that will take these raw signals and turn them into Progressive Scan RGB signals.

my monitor isn't sog compatible and my 1.1 vga bios works fine.

But with what games? As he said, some games will be green, not all of them. You've probably not hit one of the s.o.g. games yet.

The green problem I am referring to has nothing to do with SOG whatsoever.It is caused by games re-initiliasing the video after the game has initially loaded, often via a seperate xbe.Here is a list off the top of my head that turn green with the various VGA bioses:
Morrowind
KOTOR
Jade Empire
Splinter Cell 2 & 3 (probably 1 as well but I haven't checked personally)

BTW I recommend that if you are using a VGA bios you should use XBMC as your dashboard as it re-initialises the video correctly, so if an app or game turns green you won't need to reboot the xbox to get correct colours again, just IGR back to XBMC.
