Hi everyone! I just bought a X68000 XVI model and I'm so happy with it. For a long time I was looking for this system, and be able to play with some good games, especially with the midi interface, cause I love good old classic game music.

So I'm a newbie, with this hardware and in this forum, nice to meet you~ And I have some questions about installing a SCSI2SD version 5.0b on this system:

A friend of mine is making me the scsi cable to connect the SCSI2SD to the motherboard following the tutorial I found on this forum: https://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=x68000:don_t_have_a_sasi_scsi_cable

It helped a lot, thanks for that...

But I have a question about powering the SCSI2SD. Cause when I looked on Internet, sometimes I found that it's seems to be just powered by the scsi cable (no power cable seen on some pictures), and sometimes it needs a power cable to work...

The only power cable available in my system is this one : 20200315_120112684.jpg
So I did some research on the site/forum and found that it's the HDD power cable, and works like this:

So, here is my first question, finally! The SCSI2SD needs 5V, not 12V, so how do I connect the red and black wires to it ? Because I can't find any detail or picture about it. And I still don't know if the scsi cable that my friend will make is enough to power it... Any advise please?

Secondly, sorry for the inconvenience... About preparing the SD card, it seems that I have a problem too: I downloaded the X68000V4.zip file and tried to install it on a 1 / 4 / 8 gb microSD card using Winimage, but after that, Windows can't have access to any file on it, asking me if I want to format the disk. Also, when I just want to open the X68000_V4.HDS image file with Winimage, it failed telling me there is an error to read the file. Is this normal? Is there a different partition / file format for this system, incompatible with Windows ? Because I want to upgrade it with the SP1 / Frontend / and SP2 but I don't know how can I have access to the files on my microSD Card...

Sorry to bother you with this, also I'm not an english native speaker so ... Thanks in advance for your help !

X68k runs Human68k OS.  Totally incompatible with Windows.  If you want to open up the image you need to use Disk Explorer or load the image into an emulater.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking about. I used Disk Explorer to add files to X68000_V4.HDS . The SD Card seems ready. Just need to connect the SCSI2SD to my X68000 XVI now...

Any advice about the power?

When I look at this photo : https://cdn3.volusion.com/fwprz.bxenq/v/vspfiles/photos/SCSI2SD-v5b-20cm-power-lead-2.jpg

I wonder... Do I need to connect 5V (red wire) and GND (black wire) on my SCSI2SD 5.0b the same way? How about the blue one, what to do with it?

Thanks in advance !

No you dont need a power cord. The sd2scsi is powered by termpower from the scsi bus.

That's what explained this photo: https://i.imgur.com/tZbofy4.jpg

I thought that it was powered by the scsi cable too, but since I was not sure, I wanted to ask...

So, just waiting for my scsi cable now, and I'm good to go!

I'll post some pictures of my setting when I'll get everything. Yesterday I got the keyboard and Roland MT-32 + Midi interface. I'm waiting now for the SC-55.

Thanks again guys !

There are suggestions that Disk Explorer could corrupt your image, so I think the safer way to transfer files onto the image is to follow the guide and use WinDrv.sys to use a shared drive on the PC

OP said he wanted a way to view the contents of the image in Win.  Disk Explorer is fine for this.  Corruption occurs when you import/export files with it.
