I own a Sharp X68000 Compact and bought a STRATOS CF AztecMonster ages back:
http://gamesx.com/wiki/lib/exe/detail.php?id=x68000%3Ahard_drive_on_sasi_machine&media=x68000:cf_aztecmonster.jpg

But I still need the cable. I would like to connect and use it externally to use as a CF HDD rather than internally if that is at all possible (I have an external PSU for the cards power).

I have been told on the Facebook Group to get this cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/36-inch-Internal-IDC50-to-2-External-CN50-50-Pin-SCSI-1-Enclosure-Case-Cable-/270837227488?pt=US_Drive_Cables_dapters&hash=item3f0f281fe0h=KAQEOX5er
And this cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3ft-SCSI-HPDB50-Male-to-Cen50-Male-External-Cable-/350438386980?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5197c16d24

But I am not sure if that is going to work or if the cables would need to be rewired.

I found out about this at:
http://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=x68000:hard_drive_on_sasi_machine#chapter_1scsi_to_ide_cf_sd_adapter

But it only seems to mention using internal connections. I am also wondering if it is possible to use this externally if the steps in Chapter 4 would be the same.

depends on what enclosure you have? take a picture of the connector on the system and the external enclosure. buy matching cables. ID the HDD accordingly on the enclosure. I have an External CF setup and I can use it on my Super and 030 just had to adapt the cable. SCSI is SCSI you shouldn't have to rewire anything.

Who ever suggested the HPDB 50 to 50 pin Centronics cable to you on facebook needs slapping in the face with a wet herring..

Both the compact and '030 tower models use a 50 pin micro centronics connector (it has flat edged connectors on the outside on the female end and on the inside ridges on the male end with 25 connectors each side) this connector was also used on a few PC laptops and some other desktop system for there SCSI connector to, all be it.. quite rarely.

Try this adaptor:
http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/179709433

it's a micro centronics to the more commonly used 50 pin high density centronics connector.

or failing that.. try searching the Japanese auction sites for:
マイクロ scsi

There's a guy that makes a variety of scsi cables with odd and rarely used connectors on there, he makes small batch's of them and sells them now and then.

Hi, StarshipUK !

Yes, you can follow the steps of chapter 4! And you need one case with 5v PSU for Aztec, so that the set looks good  :)

About the SCSI cable, follow the instructions of H68K.

Good luck !

 Hi StarshipUK !

It has been confirmed that AztecMonster can be fitted in a Compact. Please read the following article for more information. IMHO you could try to make the same mod as Caius (author of the article).
