I sent a question some time ago regarding connecting my DATA CardDock to my XVI compact and the update here is that I am having a terrible time finding a SCSI cable that actually matches the XVI compact SCSI connector. It looks like a HPDB50 but it really isn't... I looked all over the web for info on this and find none. So now I am focusing on trying to get a 5.25 drive setup in one of my Win98 machines and see if I can generate a boot disk for my Expert.

If anyone has any extra info on the XVI compact SCSI connector please post here!

Hi Pmack,

I created a new thread because this info might be valuable to other forum members.

Judging by the following pictures you have a Micro Centronics 50-pin connector on your X68000 XVI compact. Be careful when ordering the cable because there is a smaller 36 pin variant of it.

Micro Centronics 50

The Micro Centronics 50 connector has 50-pins arranged in two rows one on top of the other. The top row has 25 pins and the lower row has 25 pins. This connector is typically used in proprietary SCSI-2 interface applications. This connector is rare.

I can fully agree that it is very rare. Most of the times HD50 cable is listed as Micro Centronics 50 to throw us off the track. I was unable to find it in stores outside of Japan so my best guess is that the usual place is our friend.  I will send you a PM with links to where you can buy the cable.

Best of luck !

For those of you who are interested in purchasing the cable there is a seller on Yahoo Auctions called ecop_jp who sells various Micro Centronics 50 converters. Here's a link to his store:

http://storeuser5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/user/ecop_jp

When the page opens, click on the SCSI category in the upper half of the screen.

The other way to find the converter would be to write "scsi 50" in Yahoo Auctions search box.

Basically this is what you should be looking for:

Apparently, if you have the soldering skill you can swap out the mini-Centronics-50 connector for a HD50 connector and it'll work.

Haven't seen confirmation of this in person, though.
