Hello there, my name is Douche Mcallister from Lagoon, Mississippi. I am a proud gamer and conservator of all things 8 and 16 bit.

Friends we all know classic gaming has fell on hard times in recent years, so too prevent further hardship, I'm here to help bring about a true revolution! We all know that as time passes many great consoles such as Nintendo's NES and SNES will continue to grow old and decrepit, until one day...they simply vanish into obscurity. Troubling, I know. But we as a community can prevent that from happening!

With the advent of console emulation for many modern day gadgets, we can relive those glory days! Or, can we? You see, back when we we're experiencing Mario & Luigi as intended, our tv sets we're considered the proper format to enjoy low resolution content (the NES for example was 256x240 pixels, at a 4:3 ratio) Nowadays we have these neat LCD and Plasma monitors that project hi-def content at whopping resolutions! Great for modern day games sure, but not so great for little Kirby and his overly effeminate friends.

So here is the deal, I want to ensure that all my classic games can be played accurately as possible, whether that be through my blazin' fast PC, or my Nintendo Wii. The problem always comes back to my display device. Sure I can invest in a standard CRT tele, but who wants to do that besides losers? I have a dream that I can play old azz games, through true RGB! But, that comes at a substantial cost (sometimes well into the 3-figure range) A young blood like me can't be throwin' down benjamins like dat! In other words I need an affordable and reliable way to plug my Wii and PC into a display that will maintain the true size of said content.

I HATE upscalers, linedoublers, pixel enlargers...they are just so, fake! So, I leave it to you friends, give me some good advice for the future of past gaming...we all know it's the right thing for these United States.

Try a upscan converter like the XRGB-2/2+ it will change your mind. The quality is so awesome with jp21 RGB cables that I hardly notice the difference I when compared it to a real 15khz RGB monitor.

But if you're seriously looking for a RGB monitor for your consoles and PC then get a 27" NEC Multisync. The models 4PG and XM29 are capable of 15khz and 31khz, and high resolution up to 1024x768. I'm sure there are other models but these are the ones I know about. If you find them, they should cost you around $150 or less. I used to own the 4PG model and I will say it was like playing in front of an arcade monitor even had built-in stereo speakers. My only gripe, it was just to cumbersome to have around especially in my tiny apartment. I sold it when I realized the XRGB-2 with a 17" VGA monitor was on par with the 4PG monitor in terms of picture quality. The best thing, a 17" monitor is so much easier to tate than a 120lbs 27" monitor.

Welcome. It's not necessary to introduce yourself on GamesX, we invite you to participate in discussion of technical issues right away. In that spirit, I'm not quite sure what it is you're asking here.

If you're concerned about the way SDTV resolutions are rendered on modern displays, then you should perform in-store testing with your preferred gaming devices before buying a TV. Since HDTV covers many different resolutions and applies to several different standards, manufacturers have significant leeway in the way that they implement upscaling or image distortion. There's no one solution that will satisfy all users.

If you haven't done so already, please review other posts in the forum and become familiar with the rules and conventions of GamesX. Note that topics such as programming and emulation fall outside of our normal subject matter, since we focus on hardware modification.

I just smote you for trying to sound cool.

Don't give me that horseshit.  You make a nonsense post full of flowery words and ignorant content, and expected what?  Someone to guess what you meant?  Someone to take time out of their day to explain all the things you don't appear to understand?

All are welcome to come here and ask their questions and share their knowledge, but I do expect a modicum of effort from the people that do.

Failing that, I expect you to keep the gay jokes to yourself.  I don't ban many poeple, but I don't have any problem doing it.  =P

Looks like we have a greasy troll loose in the forum!!!

Standard rules apply to this thread. Be advised that I'm closing this topic. If you wish to discuss the subject of upscaling or modern video displays further, please start a new topic.

Our friend Douche is definitely a troll.  Consider the message I was sent:

Quote from: DoucheBan me then you fucking punk, this site cost me a SNES anyway.

Right, I totally believe he signed up, made a friendly post, then claimed to have friend a SNES after we called him on the trolling thing.

Right.
