NES MP3

Just working on an idea placing a small/cheap mp3 player into a NES pad. The earphone jack would come out the lead hole, everything is good apart from wiring the dpad and action buttons in to skip up and down volume up down and play and stop. Im thinking of adding in a clicky type button reminisant to the old neo geos, any ideas on how id go about wiring it up to the circuit board buttons? or is it as simple as finding the to conectors soldering wire to them and then in to a simply switch type button?
