Just wondering , would the USB headsets for PS2 work with XBOX? I beleive they used Logitec hardware in both , note the xbox has a USB adapter on it

I've tried this both ways, connecting the Logitech USB headset to the Xbox using an adapter, and then attaching the Xbox Live headset to the PS2 using an adapter. In a nutshell, the Xbox headset has some custom components that make it incompatible with standard USB equipment from a protocol perspective. It would be possible to create PC-based drivers for the Live headset, but the PS2 won't support it at all. In the same way, Xbox games expect to make use of the Live headset and not any standard USB gear.

At this point, discussion of custom drivers and software patches would constitute a programming issue, which is outside the scope of this board. However, discussion of a single custom piece of hardware which would work with both consoles would be on topic. If anybody is adventurous enough to try hacking together such a beast, that would be a workable solution.

For my money? It makes more sense hack a custom jack onto the Logitech component box, especially if the goal is to be able to use the same headset on both consoles. But now I see that I've made lots of assumptions for no apparent reason and I shiould shut up until this thread has more posts in it. :)

Perhaps an adapter to allowed PS2 and xbox and just let ya use standard headsets , possibly a PS2/XBOX switch

This would be wort of like this PS2 adapter I bought tat will lemme use a PS2 pad on xbox or NGC and has it's own switch

What does the XBOX headset enumerate as? IE, if you plug it in to a PC, what happens?

It could be as trivial as something like a different VID/PID combination or altered wiring, or as complex as changing the frames in the protocol.

If it's just a VID/PID issue, then you might be able to re-write the EEPROM that contains the VID/PID (or add a second one, and switch between the two).
