MiniDIN-9 where art thou?

Does anyone know of a cheap source for MiniDIN-9 Connectors.

The kind the Genesis 2/Megadrive 2/Nomad/32X use?

most electronics stores carry DIN, sometimes MiniDIN but not the rare 9 pin version.

I've looked everywhere for these darn things, does anyone know where to get 'em?

If you're serious about wanting to get parts to fix the existing Sega hardware, then you're gonna want to head over to www.mouser.com and do a search on "mini-DIN' parts in their online catalog. Here's a couple of links to their parts, although my instincts tell me neither is the exact one you need:

Keep in mind that these parts aren't cheap relative to more common connectors. Some of the mini-DIN jacks and plugs can run around $4 or $5 in single quantities. In my opinion, it's always cheaper to use more common connectors to create a more accessible set of video and audio connections. But if you're not interested in heavy modification, then this is definitely the way you want to go.

If you're specifically interested in pulling RGB off of a Genesis/Megadrive unit, then you might also want  to consider hacking an SCART cable, which should be available from NCS at a reasonable price. Have we got a link? Yes we do:

Oh hey, getting warmer. This is Mouser part 806-KMDA-9P:

I note with interest that the top row of the plug appears to have unevenly spaced pins, as if there's a missing pin there. It might be worth exploring the use of a ten-pin mini-DIN plug with removable components, and just leaving the one out. Just throwing that out there if this turns out to be harder than we think.

http://www.debcoelectronics.com/ also has a big selection of DIN and miniDIN plugs and sockets (including 9-pin mini) for about a buck each.

they seem to only have up to 8 pin mini-din

Also, it turns out that certain anchient mice have the correct port.

too bad rats don't live very long.  


(Logitech BUS mice / Microsoft InPort mice... to be exact)
