Today i went to Brighton Cash Loans & Jewelry, which is one of my sources for old junk to rip apart, its a pawn shop basically.. anyway, they have various commodore monitors around the store with dvd players and game consoles on them for display. they also used them for the security camera monitors. i have asked many times if they would part with them and they have always said "no, we dont sell those". however, today i went in there and went over to the section where they put pc stuff, old keyboards, joysticks etc.. and there were two of them, two commodore monitors sitting there with prices on them!! instantly i said to my friend "oh my god! im getting both! help me carry them!" and so i bought both of them, i probably paid a little more than i could have got them for at a garage sale or something, but i have never seen them for sale anywhere before so i grabbed them. the guy behind the counter said they just had new serveylence systems installed, so i guess these were the old security monitors.
i got 10% off so it was AU$36 for the two. probably not worth that, but hey, theyre awesome so who cares.

so, in short, i now have me a Commodore 1084 and a Commodore 1084S (both pal but who buys an rgb monitor for composite or svideo anyway?). both have completely different inputs, so i should be set for almost all 15khz video formats i find now:D

the 1084 still has part of the "NOT FOR SALE" sticker on it^^

I'm sure everyone here will tell you that those monitors are awesome.  Their only drawback is that they are so small.  But great never the less.

I've still got my old 1084. I played the heck out of it til it developed a little crack on a joint, opening it up and resoldering it fixed all ills--something I did after I got tired of smacking it on the side each time it started to lose picture.The first thing you might want to do is make a couple of converters so you don't have to cut up your SCART cables. It will also help as you get new ones--you can just plug them in rather than having to stop and make a new cable every time. You'll have to sacrifice a standard SCART cable or perhaps a cheap multibox but it's worth your time later on.

yeah, scart is unheard of here, so i might have to do just that. the 1084S has a D-SUB RGB input, so ill probably use that more anyway, it also has stereo speakers in it.
btw, when i got the 1084 it had a problem just like you discribed, had a dry joint in it which caused it to need a good whack to get a picture up.. i fixed that though..
