Hello guys,

I have been a happy owner of a Complete Pro II Sharp X68K with 4Mb of Ram for more than one year and I wonder which is the next step I could do to have a better system along with all the improvements I might enjoy with a likely new purchase....Maybe a new version of it like the XV or sth else.....I'm asking you for the best solution and/or it would be wiser just remaning close to my Model....So far I have enjoyed it both with original games in FD, SCSI2SD card with all added features to the V.4 image-SP1/2....really a great work done by expert guys here.....Moreover I own a FDX68 with a PI3 and a manufactured cable made by a kind and good guy, Leon .I haven't still tried this last solution that I know will let me use all FD images of all games but as up to now both FDDs have worked flawlessy I decided not to  start anything concerning it....Yet, I want to move forward and why not enjoy again and again this fabulous arcade machine we all here own...You out there will suggest me doing the best thing...for sure!!!
Cheers :)

XVI or XVI Compact (if already recapped)

A bunch of games do need the 16mhz to run smoothly.

Max

Hey  frankmonk...so are both models good and almost equal? deserved price? ...moreover you mean a bunch of games I may run on my model but far better in the 2 mentioned...do you know these games?.
really thank you so much indeed

frankmonk

SSF2, Viewpoint and Mahou Daisakusen (even better with more RAM) come to my mind which run better in 16mhz mode. but there are also other games which do profit. I would also try to get more than 4MB of Ram installed using xsimm or other memory boards.

Max

yes good idea...the fact is that I'd really like to invest on a new model but only if I can take actually advantage of it otherwise the cost is not worth the purchase itself...

Hello there,

except Buyee/Japan Auctions sites where can I keep an eye on to find good bargains/purchase about Ram Boards and/or Complete Hardware like the XVI etc....but as safe as the two mentioned Japan sites?
I had good experiences on Japan auction site buying some stuff and everything turned out for the best but nowadays it seems to be hard to find sth good.....I want to updgrade my ProII CZ653 reaching 6/8 total MB- Ramor or buy a "new" model like the ones suggested by Frankmonk......any suggestions??
thanks a lot guys...

Geograph Seal improves with all the MHz you can throw at it. Bosses in particular in Etoile Princesse are much faster. The last boss is actually really difficult at 15 MHz :D

XVI is easy to overclock. Probably a lot of them can be put at 24 MHz no problem. Overclocking older models is possible too but there are limits. My Pro is 10/15 MHz but the DMAC causes problems at 15 MHz in some circumstances. On XVI the DMAC, RAM and other stuff are on a different clock than the CPU which alleviates this problem. That also means you can overclock that stuff separately for like a 12.5 MHz system and a 24 MHz MPU.

BEEP sells brand new internal RAM for a variety of models now. I don't have a link for it handy.

Star Wars is a lot more fun at 16mhz.
A lot of the older ports:  Salamander, Space Harrier, Thunder Blade, Super Hangon, etc are really smooth at 16.  As Ive always said, 16mhz isnt required to enjoy the system, but if you have it, you will be very glad you did.

Max

yes, you both guys have been very exhaustive!! Maybe I can clock my pro II but only if this doesn't lead me to issues since so far it has worked flawlessly and the only thing I want to do is just improve performance a bit but for the rest with 4mb of ram running I can play every game even through scsi2sd!!! Inc ase, any suggestions on how to safely overclock it?
tks

I don´t think that star Wars makes a lot of difference.
Before christmas we had a little convention with 2 Compact / 16 any my normaly x68000.
I am a great Star Wars Fan so we startet the game on the Compact and my x68000 near by near - but we noticed no difference.

But if some would sell a XVI - I´am Interested. I´m searching for some Ram too, mine has 2mb.

Hey man,

that's why I'm asking suggestions here  and there, you have been precious to me... my system has 4mb and I'm able to start  every game with no issues, the only thing I was wondering is if I needed to overclock it in order to have more MHz but if only this means that I might encounter some problems and trouble, I'm not going to do that at all....moreover I do not actually know how to overclock the system!! :-[

You must be blind.  Star Wars is a lot better at 16mhz.  The manual even tells you to use it if available.

Jehuty

Nope ist´s all Ok with my Eyes. Ok they were better before some years...

We had the Compact 16 and my X68000 / 10 side by side and there was no big difference between them in Star Wars.

Don´t know when, but when i met the guy with the Compact i will make a Video.

Because i am myself intrested in an XVI for the Star Wars game i did that test.

frankmonk

Just checked Star Wars in 10 and 16mhz mode. and yes, there is clearly a noticeable speed difference between both modes.

Jehuty

ok then perhaps there is a Problem with the compact from my friend.
