Best MIDI synth to use with the PC-98?

I heard that SoundBlaster AWE 64 Gold was good (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8biH0pFYFc) and that the SC-55 and SC-88 Pro is what ZUN composed his Touhou 2 MIDIs for. But I want to know what other synths can make SoEW sound great.

Can the MIDIs work with an SD-90, or is that for Windows?

I use a SC-88 myself for PC-98 games with Midi support. It sounds pretty good and has a compatible mode to turn it into an SC-55 mapping too.

What I'm looking for (and if anyone wants to help me figure this out one day that would surely be welcome resulting in a hearty handshake and my undying respect) is to find a good music software program that uses a Gui to load .MID files that can just be loaded from the HDD. I've not found one yet, only a few command line tools. I'm looking for the equivalent of the MSDP music player, but for MIDI. I would LOVE to find that.

Oh yeah and Koishi, would you mind providing a link to the Touhou MIDIs? I'd like to check those out actually.

I don't have an SC-88 and would like an SC-88 sound font, but ripping one is illegal.

You can go onto Touhou MIDI central and go to the SoEW section to find the MIDIs.

SkyeWelse,

This page on ZUN's official site contains several different Touhou MIDI files to try out (along with various .m/.m2 PMD files).

Thanks for the links Koishi and 98digger. I really hope I'm able to find a good GUI based MIDI player for the PC-98 one of these days.
