Hi every one

I have managed to install a few games onto a compact flash hard drive.

But when i run them i get no sound the games load but no sound, Like Flame Zapper Kotsujin do i need dos drivers install for the Add on sound card ?

Also there is a dc in power socket do i need to provide power to the sound card any idea what voltage psu do i need ?

Also at worst does any one know what series of pc-9821 computers have the built in Yamaha YM2608 i hope some one here can help me out.

thanks once again

Hi, I know that addon sound card may have some issue compared to built-in Yamaha 2608 chip.PC-9821 model that have this built-in  are PC-98A-mate series and PC-98 CanBe series.

Hi guys thanks for getting back to me oh i see but do you know if this addon sound card needs dos drivers or do i have to configure the card i get no sound on any of the games i have tried, and does any one know what the dc in port on the back of the sound card is for ?

Whats the best speed of cpu to get for most of the games to run ok

Thanks for the help but dont see how that would help as the games run but no sound i have enclosed pictures of the sound card including a picture of the dip switches but not sure if they are correct ? And do i need any dos drivers for the sound card ? And whats the DC in for ?

QuoteBut then another problem came: No sound at all. Noticed that other games using "NAX.COM" sound driver didn't have either sound in my PC-9821. Found five different versions of the driver inside some PC-98 games and tried three of them (version 6.04, 6.26, 5.48). I can conclude a version that works in a PC-9821 CEREB is the 5.48 one (and maybe other versions will work too). Now the game works great (at last!!).

So you are saying try a different Nax.com driver I'm not  sure if i have other versions of the Nax.com driver do you know where i can download it from and ill try it, Also are the dip switches set right on the sound card or does any one have a manual so i can check, and thanks for help ill let you know how ill go

Please read my postings carefully.
The note did not come from me.

Hey every one goods news, i tried the nax.com but still nothing so i messed around with the jumpers and hey presto ! Its now working even the joypad works on some of the games.

Im well happy there is a few other questions i would like to ask this machine has a dx2 66 cpu and its a socket 3 does any one know if i can upgrade the cpu and to what ?

Also does anyone know if there is a device that goes between the keyboard that we can use a pad ive got an interface for my Uk pc, that i use that mimics keys so i can use mame etc.

But ill try some more games when i get home from work and let you know how i go.

Thanks for all your help and any advice on the cpu upgrade would be great.

NAX.COM is a game-specific driver, not a 9801-86 driver.

Hi Guys

Ive been putting the games over from the image I cant just put it over onto compact flash using winimage, just doesn't boot.

My machine is  a 9821 Xs some of the games are far to fast like xenon2 is there any way to slow the games down to a playable speed.

Obviously Flame Zapper plays sweet and steam hearts plays good except when the speech shows on the screen this happens.

Any ideas or is it just the gfx card, when i play the game it plays fine.

Also any tips for copying the image straight to the compact flash card I'm using a kingston 1gb card

Thanks

Hi Xybots,

I have a programmable PC-98 pad called the PJ-01 that I had purchased off of Yahoo Auctions Japan when I first bought the computers. It took a few minutes to learn how to set it up since my Japanese is not skilled enough to read through all the steps in the manual, but I eventually figured out the buttons and order combination for assigning keyboard keys to the buttons on the controller and programming them to the controller's eeprom. I tested it with the action RPG Aiza: New Generation and could move in all directions, jump, stab with the sword, open menu equipment, iventory, save games, basically all of the Function keys that were needed to all of the controllers 6 buttons. The keyboard hooks into the controller and the controller hooks into the keyboard slot.

Here are some pictures:

And here is the Manual

I get this glitch in Steam Heart's and I have no idea what causes it. I've seen it on a PC-9821Cf and PC-9821Bf. It's not the GDC mode (the game won't even run if it's in 5 MHz), it seems to be something else. The game was made in 1994, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the game being too old, or a CPU speed issue.

Just saw a suspiciously similar glitch in Quarth. It seems to be related to raster effects of some kind. Again changing the GDC settings doesn't clear it up. Unlike Steam-Heart's it will occasionally display the bottom of the screen properly as it scrolls but it mostly glitches out. There's gotta be a workaround or at least documentation of this problem. Has anyone seen anything like this in other games?
