Someone tried this mods? If yes, this are the best mods?

simonbelmont2

Nobody tried this mods   :'( ? Can someone please give me an answer?
Thanks!

kendrick

Please allow 24 hours for a response, as this is a forum of amateur enthusiasts and not a professional technical support site. Also, I personally have no idea what mod it is you're talking about, so some more details would probably produce more interest in sharing.

The import mod and the video output frequency mod do not conflict. Implementing one does not negate the other. This is the link you probably want instead:

Thanks for reply kendrick. I've read this article http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/sneslockout.htm ; the problem with this mod is some game will not work. From what I read on this article http://cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4473&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=a9598226d093caa42046fceea302453b some games will work like super mario rpg but at that time I think they don't know how to mod with 50/60 switch and they have problems with some tittles. So, I think silver mod and 50/60 switch will be the perfect, but I can't confirm this. If some one try this mods please tell me.

Having looked into this quite abit recently I wouldnt recommend the silver_surfer mod for a number or reasons, such as:-

1) Removing the lockout chip will disable the SNES reset switch entirely  :(
2) the silver_surfer mod was performed on a SNES2/Jr which is the only revision that has that particular combination of chips in that order, no original SNES consoles have that particular layout.
2) The 'S-MIX A' chip he uses for the reset line is not present on all but the very last revision SNES consoles (The '1CHIP' revision that is very difficult to 50/60Hz mod) and even then its not in the same position, isnt the same brand, and doesnt appear to have quite the same connections so quite likely wouldnt work
4) Removing the whole lockout chip is not easy! and theres no going back if it doesnt work

Im trying to work on an improved SNES lockout chip disable mod but am having trouble finding a game which doesnt work with the lockout chip disabled in the standard way.

I made the Silvermod some months ago. It doesn`t work on a german SNES and after this mod, the SNES do no longer boot :(

I've modded my PAL SNES but I have some problems when "disable lockchip" and switch 60 Hz (this game pack is not design for your console) for this games:
Super Metroid (SNSP-RI-UKV)
Spirou (SNSP-AUOP-EUR)
The mods I use are:
http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Consoles/SNES_Lockout.txt
http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/snes5060.htm
Here is the scheme I use:

I've made something wrong? For some reason I think "Disable Lockchip Switch" is not working.

Usually with certain games you need to start the game in the mode its expecting - for PAL Games this is 50Hz. Set the lockout chip switch to 'disable' and the 5o/60Hz switch to '50Hz' and then power on the console. Once the games has started and completed its 'check' you flick the switch to 60Hz mode, and then the games should play in 60Hz  :)
Please let us know how you get on.

It's working  ;D.  Thanks for reply Link83.

I was thinking the results will be better... The problem is I have F413B lockout chip. I will inform you if I find something.

UPDATE:

For some reason my console doesn't work anymore...  so my conclusion is:

1. best modding don't exist :(
2. buy all the consoles  :D

Info:
For people who have F413B lockout chip this is the site with the mod:
http://www.ffviman.fr/sw-snes/switch-snes-pal-pg-i.html

Good luck on modding!

I'm gonna put both EU and US/JP chip in my machine... I have 2x spare EU chips...

Here is my board (it's a little weird  :o, because have F413B lockout chip and is 2 chip version):
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj190/simonbelmont2/SNESBOARD.jpg
About the console, I think the fuse is broken. I will change it to see what happens.

UPDATE:
The fuse was broken and I've change it.  Now the console work again.

Info:
http://mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm

UPDATE 2:

I don't know why the lockout chip is not disable. I've tested 2 mods on my console:

1.  http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Consoles/SNES_Lockout.txt
     http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Consoles/SNES_50-60Hz_Switch.txt

2.  http://www.ffviman.fr/sw-snes/switch-snes-pal-pg-i.html

The result was the same:

For Super Metroid (SNSP-RI-UKV) and Spirou (SNSP-AUOP-EUR) I have to start the game in 50 hz with lockout chip disable then change it to 60 hz. I think it's not normal to do this... Why people say the lockout chip is DISABLE when is not disable  >:(
In my opinion when you disable the lockout chip then it shouldn't appear the error with "this cartridge is not design for this console" or something like that (I'm talking about PAL games on 60 Hz)
If someone know the explication please tell me.

Tiido Priimägi

the cart showing the message means the code on the cart is checking itself if its running on a 50 or 60Hz setup.... its not particulary difficult, just measure the time between 2 frames...

No, the game checks some register in memory, otherwise the universal adapters that bypass that protection wouldn't be able to work.

The lockout chip is disabled, that message has nothing to do with the lockout chip and is just those specific games checking what frequency your console is running at. Its an additional check that is totally separate to the lockout chip, and was added to later SNES games as an extra measure to stop people using import adaptors. (This frequency check was eventually defeated by newer import adaptors)

It's perfectly normal to start certain SNES games in 50Hz and then switch them to 60Hz - its what everybody else does. I think your looking for a mod that doesnt exist  :-\

The only possible mod I have seen that could do what your asking (without using a switch) uses a custom PCB and programmed chips, like this:-
http://ultra16.dforce3000.de/features.htm
But its sold out now, and was quite expensive. It also simply did the same as a physical hardware switch (With a few extra features) but in software instead.

I only read half the thread tbh,
but the pin silver says to connect to sits at almost 7v in a standard snes (never looked at a jr), i tried using it when i was messing with import mods a while back and it burned out the reset line on the ppu, causing the console to be permanently stuck in reset state (no boot), new snes time, you cant fix that, and that put me off my mod experiments, so you can basically thank silver for my mod never getting a proper release.
it is also true that the reset button runs through the cic and will not work with it removed. normally if you remove th cic the console wont boot because the reset line needs to be held high after a delay, he's found another place on the pcb which delays long enough for he rest of the console to be ready then outputs a voltage, it just isnt a very safe place to connect to. recreating that from scratch was part of the mod i made a while ago, I used a resistor and a capacitor instead of silver's solder point, It's much safer. also if you still want the reset button to work you have to rewire the reset button so that it grounds the reset line, as it is set up to apply voltage and is inverted in the cic by default.

does anyone actually know why the games that dont work dont work? what do they look for? this was where i was up to with my mod when my console died. seems like people just release a new mod and hope for the best that it works with the hard to work games.

Sorry to hear about your SNES Phreak97. I am glad I never tried the silver_surfer mod now! (Although that was only because I noticed that my SNES didnt have that combination of chips, and then after looking at the reverse engineered SNES schematics I noticed that the lockout chip was entirely responsible for the reset switch - so that really ruled it out for me)

I am pretty sure that the reason certain games dont work (Ignoring the 50/60Hz issue) is because they all use an 'extra processor' (Such as the SA1 or SDD-1) but more than that - the security chip in the cartridge has actually been combined with this extra processor - its not a separate chip. This means that the reset line of the internal cartridge CIC actually has control over this extra processor by sending it a reset signal,  so these games wont boot unless there is a working and matching lockout chip in the console. I discussed it abit further in the bottom of this thread:-

http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3507.0

Also interesting to note that the lockout chip inside these extra processors can actually be switched between NTSC and PAL, allowing them to boot on any SNES with a working lockout chip.

I am sure there is an alternate method that will allow these few games to boot with a disabled lockout chip, the only problem is I cant find one of these games that wont work for testing! I have bought two games with the SA1 chip and both seem to work fine with the lockout chip disabled  ::)

It could be that there is actually a correlation between the 'revision' of console lockout chip and the games which dont boot. So far I have only tested with a disabled F413A chip, but perhaps its only the disabled F413B which stops these games from working? Perhaps some signals still get out from the F413B revision even thought its disabled?

All I really need is to borrow/buy one game that definitely doesnt work with the lockout chip disabled, that way I can do abit more testing and narrow down the variables  ;)

I spoke to link83 last night on msn and it turns out that none of my ntsc games are ones that are tricky to play on a pal console:( I have mario rpg, but mine works with just 50/60 and pin 4 lifted, which is a shame..

if anyone has an ntsc game that doesnt work on a modded pal console I'd be willing to buy it from you.. let me know:)

After I read all the comments from link83 and phreak97 the Silver mod is not good.
For further information about lockout chip read link83 thread http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3507.0 (there you will find good informations  ;D).
About 50/60 hz mod is the same (for 2 chip version) - http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Consoles/SNES_50-60Hz_Switch_Pic.gif
