screwed up SNES 50/60hz Mod

So i purchased this SNES a while ago.
it's a HK PAL-M version.

but all the insides point to a regular UK SNES.
The board is SNSP-CPU-02

then i got it it was already 50/60hz modded. and it worked good.
now I don't get any display what so ever.. I tried flicking the switch a whole bunch of times and tested everything else (power, video) and there is no problem there.

I opened it up.. and the mod really odd. i was unable to find anything pointing to doing the mod this way.. so i don't know how they came up with it.

pin 24 of ppu1 is connected to pin 30 ppu2, but form that i can see they are still connected to the board. this wire goes directly to to middle pin.

one of the other wires seems to go to ground (close to where the cart connector is).

the other is soldered on to C94 on the underside of the board with a 50v3.3uF capacitor. another wirs is soldered to a point close to it with 2 resistors (i think they're both resistors), and so they're joined and that goes to the last pin of the switch.for the resistor i read brown, black, blue. so 10Moms.. i don't seems odd. my GF says red, black, blue.. putting it at 20Moms
the other thing i'm not too sure what that is..

I need this to work because I just got Terranigma (and i'm in Canada).

here are a few pix of the thing.

so i get absolutely no display.. it worked once today in the 50 attempts..
should i just remove all that and start the mod fresh? i'm pretty sure i have a 2k2 resistor here somewhere..

thanx for any help

What a strange mod. Remove everything. I'm sure it only outputs 50Hz and I'm sure your TV won't support that and that's why you don't get any picture.

Lift leg 24 and 30, and connect those two with a wire, then connect another wire to it, and connect that to the middle pole of a switch.

Locate the voltage regulator and connect a wire to I and G on it. G is GND and I is +5V. Put a 2200 ohm resistor on the I (+5V line) and connect it to one of the poles of the switch and GND to the other.

All set!

If you still don't see anything on screen, but the LED lits up on the SNES, your system is dead.

no this actually worked a few months ago and worked as a 50/60hz mod on my tv.
I used a copier and was able to play Terranigma no problem...

I'm just worried it fried my system after a while..at this time I get the light on, but no display (not even the grayish you don't have a cart inserted display).

I was thinking about remodding it.. i guess that's the way to go.

Katarak

can i cut the pins and lift them? i'm not sure how well i would do on such tight desolering.. i also only have a pump, not braid..

FM-77

Just put your soldering iron on there and pry it up with a needle.

If you've been playing Terranigma with a copier, you should be able to patch it so that it will boot up in 60Hz using SNEStool. Try it.

i used to play it with a copier. and the switch enabled me to start it in 50hz, and then switch it to 60hz.

now I actually have the cart:)
i'm going to remod it now.. hopefully it will work..
if not i'll have to mod one of my NTSC SNES.

do you know if i need to remove lockout and apply the 50/60 mod for it to work on an NTSC system?

FM-77

You can play Terranigma (or any other PAL game, for that matter) on your NTSC SNES if you do following:

- Disable the CIC-chip (this HAS TO be done)
- Install a 50/60Hz switch
- Cut off the two plastic tabs in the cartridge slot.

Hey thanx for all the help..
The PAL SNES is fried.. i tried to remod it, but plattered a little bit of solder on the other pins.. the thing would not even turn on after..

So now i'm modding one of the spares NTSC systems i have.. if that goes well, maybe i'll try to fit it in the casing for the Euro SNES.. none will be the wiser :)

Katarak

it worked.. and i was able to fit it inside the Euro SNES casing..

That can definitely be done, but you'll have to remove the rf unit in order to fit it in the PAL case (you're probably not using rf anyway). Doing so is simple - just lift it up - no soldering or anything is required.

Before you throw that dead snes away, try removing that fuse and replacing it witha piece of wire. The fuse sits in the gap under the voltage regulator!

That fuse blew whilst I was testing my 50/60Hz mod.

I've got a japanese (super famicom) version of street fighter 2. Obviously i can't get it to run on my pal aussie snes but i dont want to do the regional lockout mod.

Is there any way of modding the cart for it to run on a pal system?

Just use a Honeybee converter or something like that. It bypasses the CIC-chip.

Were the converters region bounded?
I ought to think so, but not 100% sure.
Would be nice if they would work on any region SNES  :)
