The hard drive image includes instructions for a famicom 3d db9 adapter and mentions games need to be patched to use joystick port 2 which I'm sure the HD image has already done.  However, the image included shows a schematic for the built in 6 pin mini din port as well.  Will the patched games still work with 6 pin mini din adapter in addition to joystick port 2?

Hi, to be honest, I'm not sure. I have the parts to do the mod but haven't tested it yet, and did not receive any feedback from other users. I'll see if I can find time to test this out now that I have everything I need for it.

My Famicom headset should be here this Thursday.  I'll try it first with a real Famicom first to make sure it's working and both adapters as well if even you don't know and will report back.

Well I got to testing tonight and I had no luck with the 6 pin din cable in fantasy zone launching from the 3d folder.  I thought the cable didn't work so I cut the 6 pin mini din end off and went ahead and wired it to the db9.  That didn't work either.  I dried dragon spirit and another game with no luck.  I took the famicom adapter apart and validated continuity and it was good.  I was about to post and ask for help but went ahead and tested akumajou dracula and it works so my adapter is definitely good.  Is there something I have to do to turn the headset on in the other games?  I see the screen shaking.  Unfortunately I can't test stereoscopic port more until I get another cable.  Are all the games in the 3d folder supposed to be patched for the db9 controller port B adapter?  I ordered more parts so I can just have both adapters.  I may need your help testing after all.  Just as a note I don't see the glasses even fluttering in the games that aren't working.

I got it working with the mini din 6 connector.  I wired the din plug backwards because I though the drawing was of the connector and not the port on the x68000.  All games seem to work using this connector including akumajou dracula.  Akumajou Dracula appears to be the only game patched to use the db9 port as well.  Somebody else may want to validate this and make a note in the instructions.

Thank you for testing this out. I had originally patched these games but found out kamiboy had done this a few years back, so I went with those. I think they were still using the same patches anyway.

I can try to research a little more and see if there are patches for the db9 controller 2 port.

kamiboy

Yeah, I originally did the patches. If I remember correctly some games had two patches, one which specifically added db9 support and for the most part I didn't use those. A regrettable omission.

Akumajou Dracula is working with db9 and the mini din port so unless 2 player support would be impacted in any of those games if they have 2 player I wonder if it would be best to just include db9 patched games if that makes it work with both adapters.

kamiboy

Yes, if I remember correctly there is no downsides to having the db9 versions by default. Though, I vaguely remember something about some specialized controllers like the funky giant, the cyberstick, need to be plugged into the player 2 gameport in order to function. So you would lose support for that.

I think Space Harrier has support for that stick, maybe through another patch, but can't remember if it even has support for db9 3D.

Interesting.  I just got the cyberstick in the mail so I can test it out.  So far the games I tried it with were on joystick 1.
