Missing intruments with MT-32 in some games

I've noticed missing instruments on my MT-32 in some songs/games. One noticeable example is on the first level theme of Akumajou Dracula (e.g. the part with the orchestral hits). I'm using the Etarikashikoshi midi board. I confirmed this happens at both 10MHz and 16MHz and tried reseting the MT-32 to default settings with no luck. Any idea what could be causing this?

In case it helps any; I originally noticed this running the HD image via blueSCSI but have also verified that in happens when booting from original floppies as well. I also have no issues when using an SC-55.

Your description makes me wonder if it might be your MT-32 that has a problem.  I know there are at least a couple revisions of MT-32 which do not behave identically.

Personally, I use a CM-64 with my X68s, and have never experienced missing instruments with it.

That seems likely to me, but I don't have a good idea what could be wrong with the MT-32. I did check the firmware version and saw it was at the latest revision for the new version MT-32 (2.07), but I haven't found any info on whether any x68000 games require a specific firmware version to run properly.

Any luck with solving this issue? I'm finding the exact same problem using my XVI (10 or 16mhz) and my etarikashikoshi. No issues with the SC-55, but some instruments are missing with the mt32.

I have been using an MT-100 without any issues with is basically a later revision MT-32 with extra features.  I have to ask but you are using it with a game that has MT-32 support in the MT-32 mode?  Also you are you mixing the audio with the standard headphone FM output?  Midi doesn't always give you all sounds in games.  You need to use a mixing board to combine both audio outputs.  Sorry if this sounds like basic information but I have to ask.  My next move would be to try it in well known dos games.
