Someone on Twitter by the name of Xymiem has successfully cloned the 6MB RAM/ROM and 6MB RAM/FPU expansions for the XVI and XVI Compact. He's been selling them at X68000 gatherings in Japan.

The clones have some enhancements; the XVI one has PLCC Flash ROM sockets instead of DIP sockets as well as an overclocking circuit of some kind. He also appears to have found a source for the motherboard connectors, although his are a little bit shorter than the originals.

He doesn't appear to have made very many of them, and I'm not sure if he's sold any online, just at the local venues. Anyone know if he's willing to sell them elsewhere? I'd be happy with an unassembled kit, or even a blank board if time/effort is an issue..

These sound really cool!

Kinda curious why he's showing photos of the XVI expansion that seem to be installed in a old-style beige X68000 rather than in the squarer black XVI case.

Were there any XVIs sold in the rounded beige form-factor?
Is there any reason to put an XVI motherboard in an old case ... and would it fit?

Looks like a motherboard swap - maybe he had a spare on hand. Not sure how you'd pull it off, at the very least the screw holes are probably way different.
