Thanks and thanks! I probably don't have enough machine power to run the CD version but I was always wanting to try. Is there a thread about what was done to make the cd image?

many thanks!

WAR3Z!

You should have enough memory, but it might run a little slow on that 20MHz 486.

Here is the original thread which explains the CD creation process, maybe AnnaWu can tell more about.

I did PM anna but she must be too busy to give me the time of day lol

thanks for this thread

Have you tried to burn the ISO and play the CD on your FM-TOWNS?

Opethian

I don't have a mouse or keybd to start the game. Can the alltynex.exp be auto launched somehow?

I presume you tried the HDD version which requires a mouse since you have to launch the alltynex.exp unde the O.S. .But you have to try the CD which is selfbooting (like all other FM-TOWNS CD games)

SuperDeadite

I was never able to get Anna's homemade CD version to boot on my real systems.  Though the game runs fine off my HDD.

My created CD image was tested on MESS/UNZ only.
And no, I haven't the original hardware.
The FMT is a very small part of my interests about computers and consoles.
If I have for each emulated system (MESS et cetera) the hardware, I must be a millionaire.

The original file is a self-extracting archive (alltynex.exe).
You need enough space so a hard disk or CD installation is required.

QuoteHere a short description how I made a bootable CD-ROM image (Towns System Software V2.1 L51) by using the files from the Harddisk image.

1.) Files/Folders from the Harddisk image extracted.
2.) Drive letter in different files (AUTOEXEC.BAT/DOS.BAT/TMENU.BAT D: > Q: /depent of your settings for MSCDEX) fitted.
3.) ImgBurn > Create image file from files/folders
4.) Following files on ImgBurn placed (the sequence is important!):

IO.SYS
CONFIG.SYS
AUTOEXEC.BAT
RUN386.EXE
TBIOS.BIN
TBIOS.SYS

and all the other files/folders (the order is now no more important).

5.) CD-ROM image (Alltynex.iso) created.
6.) CUE file for the Alltynex.iso created.
7.) For FM-Towns you need the IPL tools (IPL.BIN/IPL.COM) to make the CD bootable.
Command line: IPL IPL.BIN Alltynex.iso
The new CD-ROM image is now bootable.
8.) chdman createcd -i Alltynex.cue -o Alltynex.chd

Ok I tried your guide as on the MESS forum but I still can't get Rainbow Islands to boot  :'(

I placed all the files as you described in imgburn except TBIOS.BIN (as it doesn't exist) however VINGBIOS.BIN does and I've tried adding that before and after TBIOS.SYS but both times after I patch with IPL, when I put it in my Towns II the loading clock comes up and it reads for a moment then stops and nothing else happens  :'(

Any ideas?

I did this as I don't think the CCD can be patched by IPL and though I tried making a new image imgburn refused to make an iso because of the audio tracks.

As I said earlier, I doesn't have the original hardware for an double check.
Try the Frog Feast.iso (tested on UNZ/MESS).
If the CD is booting then use the TBIOS (TBIOS.BIN/TBIOS.SYS) files.
If the CD is not booting I can't help (see above).

PS: Did you tried your created CD as CD image on UNZ/MESS?

RetroRepair

Thanks anyway, the Frog Feast ISO works but the TBIOS.SYS and .BIN from that don't make a difference with Rainbow Islands.

I have no idea now.

RetroRepair

Does exactly the same thing in Unz. The Alltynex disc linked above works on the real machine also.

Guess I'm doing something wrong somehow.  :-\

1.) That means my created Alltynex CD image is working on your real machine?
2.) Your created Rainbow Island CD image doesn't work, neither on the emulator nor with the real machine?
3.) At moment  I'm very busy with other things but you can upload your created CD image.

PS: Why do you want create a new Rainbow Island CD image? A Rainbow Island (Extra Version) CD image (.BIN, .CUE, Multisession with audio tracks) for FMT exist already. Maybe it is different to the normal version.

PS2: It seems, IPL support the ISO image file format only. The ISO image file format doesn't support the CDDA (or multiple tracks either).
The main program "RI.EXP" seems to missing in your CD image content.

Nope, same problem on both emulator and real hardware.

Every version I have found is the CCD image which requires a substituted IPL to boot in emulators (and doesn't boot on real hardware). Bad dump apparently. I've not found a bin/cue version anywhere.

Yes looking at the archived website for the tool, it seems to say that. It won't touch anything but.

I did notice RI.EXP was missing from the list I posted and apparently it's missing from the disc too! Windows decided that and a a few other vital files were system files and imgburn needed to be told to burn them anyway. It now boots but goes to Towns OS and loading the executable from there doesn't work. One step forward..

Maybe the "RI.EXP" have the read-only attribute so it was missing in your ImgBurn basket and/or was not taken?
However, I will try to upload my CD Image on the nfgames server.

Thanks Anna, would be interested why I couldn't get mine working, might have to investigate  ;D

Sorry to necro the thread, but I was wondering which build of this I should get for the self booting CD on real hardware. I downloaded one earlier that I thought was self booting, but it just loads up to the TownsOS. I don't have a mouse yet, so the best I can manage right now is looking at the window with the executable. Its taunting me lol.

Thank you Caius appreciate it!

I burned a copy of the bootable CD, but it seems to go into a infinite booting loop where is see it loading the program and then it just cycles through the same process and never actually loads the game - this seems to happen in both the fm towns machines and in the marty console. On the pc, if I load FM Towns OS, I can launch the game cd and the game will load but there maybe some issues with sound and video(I say "maybe" because I am not familiar with this game) - some of the stage music and transitions do not seem correct.
On the Marty, the infinite loop is also present when the game is launched after booting into FM Towns OS.
Any one have suggestions on how to make the cd boot correctly?

Hello @caius is there a chance that you could re-upload these please? The links seem to be dead :(

OMG my ISP is maybe blocking mediafire? I'll check, thanks.

**UPDATE**

Yeah, it's my ISP. If anyone else have a similar problem, download using any VPN like the Opera built-in one.

Here is a re-upload someplace else, just in case someone needs them (both included in the same zip):

ALLTYNEX folder contain file MS-Dos executable alltunex.exe, which is the archive containing the same files? In my opinion, this archive is redundant. And yes, Marty goes into reboot.
