I just finished my Sonic3&Knuckles game, which reminded so much stuff.
It reminded that my Sonic3 didn't ever save games since I bought it (used, many years ago however).
The FRAM part isn't available on the market. Ramtron itself doesn't even have the datasheet anymore, plus they have been acquired recently by Cypress.
Since Cypress doesn't produce a direct replacement part (there's a 512x8 SRAM but too fast for this, 20ns vs 200ns required) I contacted some China IC seeker site.
I should have obtained 3xFM1208S-200CC brand new.
If somebody is having the same problem, I'm out for selling the 2 others.

Well I managed to get 2 of them. Hope that both will work anyway. Will socket the sonic3 cartridge and let the (few) of you know  8)

Finally got the 2xRAMTROM chips. They work  ;D
I got one left  ;D
If you ever need one, lemme know, or just use SeekIC inquiry service!

p.s. I bought it from Viy Yang

IC arrived today! naturally I went straight ahead and soldered that sucker in. Simple job; wick made removing it easy. Hardest part I found was aligning the legs on the new chip to slide in the holes!

Old IC extracted, new one in its place. Not that you can tell :p

So after that, does it work? Of course it does! :D
Big thanks to Fix_Metal for doing the legwork sourcing the chip.

:o Shock, it has arrived in such low time!
Of course, the IC is brand new and because of that its pins need to be bended a bit.
Glad it worked. I noticed the original solder is so easy to get rid of. Great ol' lead-tin legacy  ;D
