N64: create custom control schemes for any game.

Hello All

New to this wonderful modding community. The main reason I joined was to learn about RGB'ing an n64, but after researching the topic I found that I have another interest. I want to find a way to make an n64 controller programmable for any game so that I can create my own control schemes. I just bought Duke Nukem 64. It has what I believe to be the worst controls for a shooter I have ever seen, and with no ability to customize anything away from the crummy defaults, the game is almost unbearable to play.

So... is there a feasible way to get a controller set up to allow custom button layouts?
