building a genesis cable

This is going to be interesting.

A friend of mine recently found his Genesis 2. Slight problem...no A/V cable!

Google brought me to this site and I found the pinout. It doesn't look terribly complicated to build the appropriate connections - for the standard yellow/red/white A/V cable it seems downright trivial. However, I have never built a connection like this before, so I have some questions...

1) Where are we getting this 5Vdc on pin 2 from?
2) What's with pin 5 - the sync? I've worked in TV engineering (campus TV station) and understand the value of a good sync signal - is this the same thing? Where does it come from? Does it go in or out?

Any answers would be appreciated. Even if we can't make this work it should be an interesting afternoon at the least.

If you're making an AV cable you don't need any signals beyond VIDEO and LEFT and RIGHT audio, and GROUND.  None of the other pins are required for your application.
