Adding a SNES/GC/N64 MultiAv Input to a NES

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to add a SNES MultiAv input to a NES. I tried earlier today and I didn't get any results. I used this website to find the correct pinouts, and after destroying a broken super nintendo removed the AV connector. Then I wired it to the composite video on the NES and also to the NES's audio. No results. Any Ideas?

Don't forget ground!  Also you'll want to split the audio so that the mono signal goes out the left and right channels of the cable.

I'm not gonna ask why you'd want to do this... just keep tinkerin'!

iMacNes

Yeah yeah, I grounded it too. Still nothing, I'll be screwing around with it later this week and I'll see what happens.

The only systems I really play are nintendo, so since all but the NES have the same input I figured I might as well simplify my life.

I havent been able to get it to work, can anyone at least tell me this is possible.

Thanks.

I would try reversing the pin layout of the SNES connector you are soldering to.  This happened to me when I was trying to connect a Genesis DIN to an RGB line.  The GamesX site doesn't usually tell you if you are looking at the male or female version of the connector.  I reversed the layout so it was backwards from what was printed on GamesX and it worked perfectly.  Do the same thing.  There really isn't any reason why it shouldn't work, though I've never tried to mess with the Nintendo AV conntector.

Actualy, this idea won't work properly on PAL nintendos because all PAL consoles with the multi-AV connector have a 75 ohm resistor (located within the cable) connected in parallel with the video signal. If this cable were to be used with a PAL NES then the extra resistor inside the cable will make the picture go a bit dark. If you're in NTSC territory then the idea sounds good....just make sure you get the connections right!

BTW - I think there's an error in those pinouts. Surely pins 10 and 11 would carry normal left + right audio not mono + stereo difference...

Yeah, I never did like the idea of "mono + stereo difference", but I got the pinout from somewhere a long time ago and thought that maybe they knew something I didn't...

Yeah, I had the connections on wrong. Everything works good. I'll post pics of the hack job I did on my NES soon.

Thanks everybody.

Lawrence,
Ok, I changed the viki and also mentioned that PAL SNES' like resistors on their RGB lines.

Hehe, Lawrence I thought there was something YOU knew about that which I did not.
