Does anyone have info on the PAL Turbo Grafx? Specifically, video output, modifiability and frequency - 50Hz I presume? Can it be modded to give 60Hz?

Thanks in advance.

NFG

the PAL TG-16 is a normal NTSC unit with an extra CXA-1145 encoder to convert the Hu6260's RGB output to PAL video through a very strange 5-pin plug.  It can be easily hacked to do anything, since all the original parts are there.  The rear EXP BUS output is untouched, so your normal RGB is present there.

Now that I think about it I have opened it thrice but never turned it on, maybe it runs at 50Hz?  I have no idea.

Thanks, Lawrence. I also asked at Shmups and Matt says it's 50Hz and that makes sense. 60Hz wouldn't have worked on most PAL TVs when it was released. I'd still like to know how it does 50Hz though. If it was a certain pin on a certain chip it could probably be modified.

I imagine that the system simply runs slower.

Are there any systems that DON'T run slower when they're in PAL mode?

Darklegion

haha not many, its mostly the case of a few games will but most won't.....developers are lazy ;)

pal50 is shite anyway,I can't stand the flicker

Vertigo

Flicker? I see no flicker on any PAL system I've ever had.
And anyway, us in PAL territories hate your shittified blurry NTSC broadcasts when they're full-screened on our TV broadcasts, so shush  ;)

Darklegion

Xbox probably the only one,but then it has pal60 supoort from the dashboard...I don't know if it runs pal50 at full speed.I always notice the flicker, even on pal TV broadcast just look at the text on news programs for example it is shaking.I compare it to the difference between 60hz and say 80hz on a pc monitor it is very noticable.Maybe my eyes are just sharper which is why I can't stand composite any more.Pal has the better color resoultion though which is a  plus...but who gives a fark when there is rgb :D
60hz rgb=the only way to fly.
