Hello, my X68000 was displaying a video signal with my vga monitor but it now no longer displays anything from the X68000. I think my X68000 to vga lead is ok.

I've searched the Internet and this forum regarding this but I'm not too sure.

I'm thinking it could be something to do with some old / dodgy caps inside the X68000?

I saw a cable on Ebay that I think connects the X68000 to a scart tv but this would only fix the problem if there was something wrong with my monitor.

Any help would be cool.

Hello again just thought I'd post an update.

I've also noticed that sometimes the X68000 (it's the XVI tower) powers up ok with a green flashing light I think towards the top right of the machine where the MHz, TIMER and HD BUSY lights are (this usually happens on the MHz lights I think).

Anyway what has been happening intermittently is that the green flashing light next to the MHz changes to a solid red light and the usual noise coming from the machine seems to fade away to a much quieter noise.

Does anyone have any advice regarding this and the other video issue I posted? Not sure if they're connected? Does anyone know what the faults are here and if they can be repaired?

If they can be repaired I guess I'd need someone maybe in the Uk to help with this? If so does anyone know of anyone in the Uk that could repair my X68000 if it can be?

Any help / advice would be genuinely greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this issue is related to the power supply?

 Hi X68k !

Welcome to the forum ! The good news are that X68000's are built to last and most of the times can be repaired. Your model uses Through-hole components which are very easy to work with. First of all you will need to recap the whole system because those capacitors are way past their expected lifetime. Don't be afraid to do the work yourself. It is very difficult to mess it up unless you try very hard ;) Just practice on an old discarded electronics PCB which has through-hole capacitors. Try removing them gently without damaging the board and later, when you feel comfortable with the results, move on to the X68000.

Here are a few articles which might interest you. The first one will give you a good insight on first steps in soldering.

Can anyone in the UK do a capacitor change for me?
