SNES Lockout - U10 chips?

Hi,
I have recently removed the U8 CIC chip, making a connection from PIN10 on the U8 pads to PIN4 of the U10 chip in a UK SNES.  It is working perfectly, I now want to do the same mod to my JAP unit.  The JAP SNES has a different U10 chip, it an 8 pin chip (an LM358 Amp).

After looking through all of my PAL SNES consoles I've found they all have the 14 pin U10.  Canyone tell me where I should patch the wire from pin 10 of U8 to?

Cheers

Look for the chip marked F411  (PAL CIC is F413).

And please DO NOT EXPECT the part numbers to match in different PCBs. Disaster may occur if you short pins on the wrong parts of the circuit.  ;D

does your reset button still work with this mod?

also it's still pin 4 on both version cic's

Hi guys,

My apologies for the lateness of my reply. I've been super busy with other things.

Thanks for your replies.

@ l_oliveira   Yeah I know which chip is the lockout on the jap SNES, my issue is where to patch pin 10 of the lockout chip to (the pad where the CIC chip used to be).   On the UK SNES you run a wire from pin 10 of the CIC (u8) to pin 4 of the chip labeled u10.  On the Super Famicom, u10 is an 8 pin chip while on the UK machine the about 14 pins (I cant say exactly what the pin count is, my SNES isn't near me right now).

@ phreak97   You are totally right. My reset button doesn't work! I never even noticed lol. I shows how much I reset the machine lol.

To be honest, I have no ides what patching the wire between u10 and u8 actually does. I read it in some other instructions.  I really need to hunt down more information on the SNES CIC to see what each pin on the chip does.

Concerning the reset issue, there must be a way of reconnecting the reset line coming from the button back to the cpu reset.  Would I be correct in thinking when the SNES reset button is pushed a signal is sent to the CIC which then resets the CPU?  My thinking behind this simply because with the CIC chip removed the reset functionality is gone.  With this thought process I'm thinking there is a 'reset input' on the CIC coming from the reset button  and a 'reset output' running to the CPU's reset. If this is so, I'm thinking a simple patch between the 'reset input' on the CIC to the 'reset output' would suffice.

That is purely theoretical, I'm just thinking logically. I'm probably way off. lol

You see ...

Best way to disable the CIC is just lift pin 4.

That way it stops locking the system down and RESET still works.

Yeah that was the first region mod I did to my SNES. Unfortunately I have a few carts that dont like it.  That was the reason I wanted the CIC system completely removed.  I'll suss out the reset issue. :)

SA-1 and S-DD games are the only ones which cause problems. I think they won't work if the CPU reset is not in sync with the lock ...

Well I'd suggest that you instead use some switch to enable or disable the CIC as you need.

I just want to ask if i get this right, lifting pin 4 on F411A will make my Super Famicom play US and PAL-games? That easy?

Yes, that easy.  Only games known to not work with that mod are S-DD/SA1 based games.

S-DD has only two games being: Street Fighter Alpha/Zero2 and Star Ocean.
Notable  SA1 games include Super Mario RPG, Jikkyou OshaberiParodius and Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension.

Did you managed to find out how to wire the snes? I have a US-NTSC SNES with a LM358 too, after comparing the diagrams of the U10 in varios snes versions i connected to pin 8 (VCC) instead of pin4 (vcc) from the LM324 but when i turn on the snes I only hear a buzz
