HI ALL!

very quickly because I don't want to make you lose time with fancy greetings :)

I need to connect a PSX (PS1) to a SCART TV. I bought a RGB cable that is fake because it works with videocomposite only. RGB wires are connected but pin 16 for vblank is not.

Digging the web I found that I "will need to use an LM1881 or similar circuit to strip the sync from the video line." (http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/psxav.htm)

I can solder one cable but adding the circuit is quite beyond my skills and time. Indeed I really think there's a cable ready somewhere to buy, new or used, factory produceds or DIY...doesn't matter as far as it works and allows me to enjoy full RGB retrogaming!

Thanx to anyone replying with any help!

Why don't you buy a real RGB cable? they are not that expensive ... may be easier than modifying the current one.

First thing to check on the cable: Is there a full row of contacts on the ps1-side of the plug? You know, not the Scart end, but the other side: Do you see missing contacts/teeth? If so ... you will probably not be able to modify it for real RGB. And I dont think you need a syncstripper in the cable, since the playstations supply all the neccassary signals for rgb already (if all the teeth are connected).

hi, thanx for your reply!

You're right, a ready cable would be the best...actually I did order a RGB cable and I got that fake one, so now I want to order something 100% working :)

All pins on the PSX side are present (12 afaik) and I tried to wire videocomposite out to pin 16 (blanking/RGB mode) without luck. Maybe because there should be that circuit?

You'll need to wire the 5V-line from PSX to scart pin 16 via a suitable resistor (~75-180 ohms) to get the correct voltage level. Look at the following diagram: http://members.optusnet.com.au/eviltim/gamescart/gamescart.htm#psx. You also won't need a sync splitter for a normal scart TV as it can strip sync from composite video.
