Problem with my Interact PS1 Controller

I was testing my Interact PS1 Controller after I've fixed the problem it was having.  I discovered another problem because it said to please reconnect the controller although I still had it plugged in.  I tried moving the cord to find the break and I lost it because the game then went back up and the controller worked as normal.  I now know that the wire reconnected after it moved, but I cannot recreate the break so I can find it and fix it by soldering.  I don't want to have to strip down the whole cord.  Please help me.
