Hi,
I dont know if anyone here could help but worth a try :)
I have a Mitsumi Slim CD-ROM (SR244W/244W1) CD-Rom drive from a laptop. Its set as default to be master on what ever IDE channel it is placed. I read somewhere that if i updated the firmware i could over ride the setting to make it slave by default. OR if there where basic pins that i would short to make the drive slave on the standard IDE cable that would do for me! There are no jumpers on this drive.
The reasion that I post this question here is that i wish to use this drive in my xbox as my homebrew/divx/svcd player as the standard xbox dvd-rom wont read cd-r.
Any info would be great. thanks

Phily.

Acctually, some do, but the ones that do have a samsung drive that has a different tray from the rest. i'll have a link if you wanna find out about it.
Why are you reading this?

Yea, that be great.  Are Mitsumi and samsung drives alike? Any info from any would be great! :)

I had a Samsung slimiline drive that seemed to be set to cable select when I needed it as master.

Did a bit of research on the IDE connector and ended up connecting a pin to ground (pin 28 I think, not 100% sure) and I believe that connecting it to 5V would make it slave but I did not get a chance to check this.

Some slimline cd-roms have solder bridges inside them which allow you to set master, slave and cable select cuttting and making connections.

this is great news.  will do more research, but more info is always good :) anyone have one of these puppys?

What about the cable standard for IDE? is there any pins that i just put to 5v or ground to make the drive cable select or master?

I got some emails from Mitsumi saying that there are jumpers on the main board which will allow the drive to be made slave but they didnt want to give me the location of these on the main board as it will kill the warranty  :(
Anyone know where I could find the location of the jumpers or the points to jumper? I have the main board out of the drive, it measures about 1 inch * 2 inches.
If needed I could scan the board for some genius to find the points :)
