so yeah I think the snes 2 has a better graphics encoder chip.  The composite video out of it looks way better than the composite from my model 1.  So if I do the "quick and dirty" rgb mod on my snes 2 do you think that will look better than the rgb from my model 1?  I'm guessing the answer is "yes" but I just like to double check

I have not noticed any RGB improvement on the SNESjr after doing the mod.  If you've already got a SNES1 I'd stick with that unless you're really feeling adventurous.

thanks.  I still find it very strange that the composite video quality is greatly improved on the jr model but the rgb wouldn't be.  Does it still use the same ppu/encoder chipset as the model 1?

Good question...

From what I know ...

There is two versions of the PPU1 chip and they have slightly different palettes. On the SNESjr we have a "One Chip" chipset which was based on the second version of the PPU1. The only difference is the color palette.
Anyway the old generation1 SNES had a older and more complex video encoder I think the newer model might get better composite/svideo quality, but RGB should be unchanged.  (Besides the color palette detail)

great.  I'd happily use my super famicom over the model 2.  SFC is way better looking
