NEC Multisync XM29 Plus - anyone try RGB on this monitor?

A buddy of mine picked up one of these a little while ago off craigslist. He's been using it for Dreamcast via it's VGA port. I recently got a huge collection of RGB cables for old school systems to work with my VGA monitor, which is a Sony PVM-2530. I have included a picture of the back of the XM29 Plus. As you can see in the area marked RGB1 (sorry the flash kinda makes this area a bit bright), there is a VGA port, and underneath a 15-pin RGB port. According to the manual, this monitor is compatible with PC's and Macs (old Mac monitors do have the 15-pin RGB cable which is the same shape and style as an old PC gamepad connector). Also the manual states that it has a wide range of frequencies including 15khz.

anyone with this monitor have experience using it for RGB?

15Khz RGB goes into the BNC sockets (RGB2) by the looks of it. You'll probably have to make your own cables.

For sync signals, either connect composite sync and switch to "Hi-Z" or composite video and switch to "75 ohms"

thanks for the tip. I have a BNC to VGA cable. Perhaps use that and maybe a db9 to VGA adaptor  if it exist? My RGB cables have DB9 on the end of them

I used to have the same exact model.  But nowadays, I only have the NEC XM37 Plus, which is basically the same, just bigger.  But both the 5 BNC and the 15 pin can be used for 15 khz analog RGB.  You will need a sync splitter for the PS1/PS2 and Saturn though.  I run my Dreamcast in VGA.  I have a picture of a PS2 running Street Fighter 15 Anniversary in RGB here:  http://www.arcade4home.com/junk/PS2-RGB.jpg

If you want the PDF manual of the NEC XM29 Plus, I can give it to you.  It states in the manual that both the VGA and 15 pin can be used as input or output, however, they can't both be used as inputs simultaneously.  Page 23-24 of the PDF has the pinouts for the 15 pin.

I have the PDF Manual for the XM29 Plus, thanks. Does there exist a DB9 to VGA adaptor? I haven't seen one and I really don't have the skills to make one either.

You would basically have to make a VGA to DB9 for your cable since it's most likely proprietary.  Get the pinouts to the DB9 from whoever made it for you and I am sure someone can make you a cable.  And a sync splitter is something like a lm1881n.
