Anyone familiar with the Sony RGB Interface Adaptor PC-701?

It's old, mid 80's.  the part that connects to the computer is a DE9 male, though it connects to the PC-701 via a Din8 male.
The cord labled "monitor" is permantly connected to the PC-701 and it's other end is a female 2 rows by 17 "holes", very much like an IDE or floppy drive remale plug.

anyone have any ideas what types of "monitors" it drove?  I haven't had any luck finding anything about it, except I could buy it new in box & get it's manuals off of ebay.  Pass on that, seeing as I already have it and don't see any points in paying $100+ for something that isn't probably any good for anything anymore.

I opened it up but don't see special chips, 2 SN74LS05N's and 1 SN75154N, and then a bunch of the normal stuff, resistors, caps, so on.

Any one know what sort of monitor it's for?

thanks

It connects a CGA PC to the 34 pin "Multi" input on some old Sony monitors such as the KX20PS1, KX27PS1 and others that I can't remember the model numbers for.
