As I understand it, the last Dreamcast revision was changed to prevent CD-R booting. I know there is a mod-chip that is probably still available somewhere, but I seem to remember this from way before the changeover. Does the chip actually enable CD-R boots or does it only work for region-changes?

Side-question: Is it just me or does the DC absolutely hate being opened? I've opened up three so far and for whatever reason they've never been the same since. It seems like an overheating problem, despite plenty of ventilation and a good solid contact made with the TIM and heatsink.

Edit: Hey hey, here we go, there is another boot CD. Would be nice if there were something you didn't have to swap but oh well.

so far i've been fine with taking apart my dreamcast, but i have an early DC..

even though i have an early CD-R capable console, I noticed on things like DC-Divx, just swapping the CDs for a disc with Divx, is risky..  sometimes it'll lock up the console, sometimes it'll work..  all with the same disc..
