ok i dont understand why this cant output rgb.  http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-86-77-...can-70-5w4.html

it uses the ps2's component out. so why cant i just change the output to rgb? i know my monitor supports ps2 non-interlaced rgb (with component into the bnc jacks, or via component->vga cable) so will this work?

i'm guessing no...

Well, first of all component's nothing like RGB.  The fact that the PS2 uses the same pins for both component and RGB doesn't make a whit of difference to the receiving device.

This upscan convertor uses a cheap, single-chip conversion method, and that chip only does video, Svideo and component.  You can't make that chip do RGB.

I'm actually pretty stunned that your monitor accepts component on the RGB/VGA jacks.  I think you're confused.

If I had to guess, I would say that the Hori Upscan Convertor 2 accepts component input only for the express purpose of being compatible with DVD movies. You may recall that in RGB mode, both the Playstation 2 and the Xbox won't play movies because copy protection schemes like Macrovision can't be transmitted over the raw, analog RGB signal. I'm almost certain that the capability was either omitted or deliberately engineered to be missing.

I might be misinterpresting your question, however. If you're asking why the Upscan Convertor 2 can't *output* RGB at 15 kHz, then the simple answer is because it's not supposed to. If that's the case, I'd like you to please restate your question and replace the verb 'use' with a clear statement about whether you mean input before conversion, or output after conversion. But however this shakes out, I don't think you can make this convertor box do what you want it to do.

My Plasma monitor can take RGB, VGA, or Component all over the same inputs (either the BNC or VGA D-Sub) But then that's what a three thousand dollar TV gets ya. B)
