Hey I want to use an NES controller to control a DVD player. How could I make a seperate connection for each button pressed? I know I need to run it into some sort of IC chip or something. Thanks in advance.

And by that I mean decode the signal from the 4021 chip into individual connections for each button. Sorry for the vague explanation.

The same chip used to decode a SNES pad works with the NES (They use the same encoding).  This was discussed a few days ago:

Okay so if I got one of those chips, you said that a clock and some other stuff was necessary. First off, that chip was called a 16-bit shift register. For NES, I would only need an 8-bit shift register, right? And could you explain how you would hook that up? I know what each of the NES controller pins are, I just dont know what the symbols for the chip are.

Or say I used this. First of all, is this what I want? If it is, I know the CP is the clock, but how would the other pin outs connect? I'm not sure what the MR or DS inputs do. I know that G0-G7 would be the outputs.
Sorry again for the double post.
