SNES APU DSP Processor

I seem to think that if there is a way to substitute a better DSP processor in the APU, you could get a higher sampling rate from the spc700 samples. most games are capable of higher than 32khz sampling rates but they are limited by the 32khz thats outputed by the DSP processor. The SP\DIF mod that can be done to the APU lead me into the idea and looking up some info on the what the DSP processor does. Its the part that outputs the raw digital data. Anyways if anyone has any ideas about this feel free to respond. ^_^

The DSP in the SNES is a proprietary one designed by $ony.  I don't think there's a more capable replacement and if there were it most certainly wouldn't be pin compatible.

And besides, most samples used on the SNES are of a much lower sampling rate and the only sounds that (probably) take advantage of a higher samp. rate would be ones that are played at high pitches and on stock hardware they probably wouldn't sound to great so I woulden't be suprised if there was any improvement at all.

I have performed the s/pdif mod and 32KHz on coax digital thrugh my $ony amp sounds crystal clear.

Thanx for the advice, I guess ill just stick to the sp\dif mod for my snes, as soon as i get the cirus logic chip to do so.

Well, the DSP is understood, as there's emulators for it. However, it'd be a fair bit of work to come up with a pin compatible DSP that you could retrofit. It'd probably be easier to rework the entire APU from the ground up!
