Just check this:

Anyone knows this Cable? The funny thing here is, that it won't work with the N64 but N64 is written on the package..

I tried this one on a normal N64 and a RGB Modded N64 - you just hear the Music and Sounds but you won't see anything. I've read somewhere that you can Mod some Cables to work with the N64. Is this possible with this Cable? And when, tell me how please.

Search-Function didn't show for what I was searching.

Thanks,

The N64 doesn't output RGB, none of them do without modification, and most of them can't be easily modded.  This box lies to you.

The RGB mod is, of course, on gamesx.com.

There's discussion about modding the other models of N64, but they're far, far more complicated and to date not completely understood.

I always knew, that this Box was lying to me, but when I saw this Cable in Store I couldn't believe it and bought it for around 3 EUR - I bought this last year and they got only 2 left for this cheap price.

But why the hell there is a cable out, written RGB on it when everyone knows, that N64 can't do RGB without modification? Maybe Edge Games knew that there are some Modders around in this world?! :P

Edit: The RGB Mod was done by me some years ago, but I need to know how to mod this cable..

Could be just a composite or s-video to RGB converter - there was at least one cable like this released in the UK (made by Blaze, IIRC).
No idea why you're not getting a picture though - maybe SCART pins 8/16 aren't wired up correctly.

This Cable is brand new. Must be manufactor failure..
You're talking about pins.. isn't here any1 who knows a guide how to mod N64 Cables to rgb cable?!

Paper

Open up the SCART plug and let us know the wiring.

Could be. I once bought a brand new Blaze Playstation RGB SCART lead, and when I got it pin 16 (RGB enable) wasn't even connected.
I actually bothered to email Blaze to point out their error, and some muppet replied telling me that it was an s-video lead - in spite of the fact that the rest of the lead WAS correctly wired for RGB, and the lead was clearly advertised as RGB.

After years and years, people still believe those third party cables DO output real RGB.

I'm not blaming the buyers, after all, they're supposed to believe in what the products say.

Those SCART 3rd paty cables only output composite. As many of you know, SCART doesn't mean RGB, and that's what 100% of those cables output. In my opinion, unless you have an RGB-modded N64, go for the official S-VHS cable from Nintendo of America. It's expensive but it's official.

Had to many deceptions with shitty 3rd party cables and when I realised the difference with the official GC RGB cable, I said to myself it was the end of 3rd party cables.

Hope this helps

:)

That's nice, but despite what you would have the world believe there are third-party cables that have perfect one-to-one connections for RGB done properly. It isn't an "official cable only" thing.

LuxKiller65

Must then be my "collector's syndrome"!

But my suggestion is, if you don't want trouble with accessories, go for the official stuff (at least YOU KNOW that a 3rd party product is as good).

LuxKiller65

Correction: (unless YOU KNOW that a 3rd party product is as good as the same official product).

Guys... you're all talking about Pins here and there.. please tell me how to make my cable rgb'ish!

Endymion

. . . would you kill me if I said connect the proper pins? The info is on this site, just compare the SNES pinout with the SCART pinout and see what's attached where on the cable you have. I'm of the mind it's likely not a SCART cable, but a Japanese RGB cable. The information for that pinout is on this site as well.

Like Yod@ said, it could be a trying to convert s-vid to RGB, but your N64 doesn't support s-vid (wasn't there some later models that had this removed as well?)

Bit late but the reason these boxes have RGB on them is the same reason the third-party PAL GC ones have RGB on them too (when most of them don't do it). For the GC, the pins changed at the last minute by Nitnendo.
For N64, I'm sure manufacturers just assumed the multi-out would be the same as the SNES one, but it wasn't wired up for RGB. You can see this because these N64 'RGB' cables do output RGB from a SNES.
