Hey all,
Just modded my MD 2 to have RGB out today :D Pretty pleased with it as I have the sharpest graphics output possible :) Anyway I'm now looking into getting the best possible sound output, and my plan is to add an SPDIF connector to it as someone did with the snes here. Is this possible on the Genesis/Megadrive Model 2? Or is the D/A converter inside that big scary chip ner the front? I don't have an oscelloscope handy either so I've got no idea how to find out what the sample rate is :P

Anyway comments/suggestions are very much appriciated :D

I have no info on the SPDIF thing, but interesting that you had to mod your Megadrive to use RGB out, it should have been able to do it already.

Well I don't mean anything serious, it was just my first taste of the modding world :P I merely soldered some wires onto the A/V out pins on the motherboard ^^ Oh also another thing I was worrying about with the SPDIF thing is that the SEGACD can provide 44.1Khz audio from CD directly, I'm guessing analogly... I dunno. I wish I could find a pinout for the SEGA 315-5660-02 chip.

Well, if you REALLY want to hear the best Genesis sound available you can buy a Laseractive system with the Genesis pack.  It'll set you back around $200 but it's well worth it (also plays Sega CD, MD, Mega LD, Laserdiscs and CDs)  This system supports digital optical out-thus the great Genny sound :)

Where's the fun in that? ;) And besides I'm poor :o interesting info though, I hadn't heard of that.

Well if you can't tap into an acceptable onboard source you could always add an internal Analog to Digital converter inside.  That's what I have done with my ColecoVision consoles.

Wow thats pretty neat, but I'm still gonna try and find the most direct route for the sound ^^ Once I get an MD1 that is anyway. I think the sound stuff is all hidden inside that big chip on the MD2.
