I came across a website where the guy was listing his systems/games. He listed that he owned a Sega Genesis 1, 2nd Edition, Country Switch & Stereo Modified. I found out what the 2nd edition is, and of course I know what stereo is although I didn't know it could be modded. I have never modded anything, I'm a newbie! BUt what is a Country Switch and what is it for?

Some games check to see which "region" the console comes from. That way, if you insert a Japanese games in a US Genesis, it might well tell you that you're not allowed to play the game. On top of that, Europe uses a different TV standard, so the games have to also be aware of that.

In all, there's three "regions" that the Genesis recognises. It's pretty much "US", "Europe" or "Japan". The country switch just allows the Genesis to be set as if it came from one of those three regions, to match the region that a game is expecting.
