Hi guys I am working on putting a longer cable in my TG-16 pad, but I notice there is no continuity between the pins 1, 8, and 9 to the connector that goes into the controller PCB on the official TG-16 controller cable (according to the pin #'s from here: http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/turbocont.htm)

I also see that they don't go to either of the two chips on the pad.

However, all 9 pins on the connector into the controller pcb have wires.  Why is there no continuity between those three pins on the connector and any of the wires on the connector that goes into the controller PCB?  Are they uneccessary?

Also, on the same gamesx controller data page this statement interests me:

QuoteThe chip would theoretically allow for four speeds of rapid-fire, although only two were used.

Are these un-used rapid fire speeds slower or faster than the ones the switches are for, and how would I be able to use the un-used speeds?  Just for fun.  I'm assuming some kind of switch to the 74HC163AP, but what kind of switch and what kind of pins?

Thanks!

Check your cable again.  If 1 (Vcc), 8 (GND) weren't connected, your controller wouldn't work.   (There is no 9, it's an 8-pin connector, this is probably shell ground).

There's a schematic on the wiki.

The following reply will clearly indicate why Gamesx.com never became popular:

You've got a diagram showing a chip, the 74163, which has four outputs labeled Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4.  Your autofire circuit uses Q2 and Q3, and triggers on every 4th and 8th pulse.  You might assume that Q1 and Q4 would fire on every 2nd and 16th pulse, or you might hunt for a datasheet for this insanely common, generic part that's been in production for what must certainly be a thousand years, and verify this yourself.

Or you could ask someone else to work it out for you.

Gamesx was never intended to be a place where solutions were found, only the raw data so you could figure things out yourself.  I don't even want to answer the question, I'd rather spend 10 minutes telling you how to work it out yourself.  And, in fact, I have.  ;)

I wonder if airthrow has worked it out yet.
