So windows is now schizophrenic.

Explorer can't connect to anything.
Opera works fine.

I can ping any site I want to,
but telnet + IRC both instantly fail.

The only clue I have is Explorer's too-fast-to-read messages on the bottom of the screen where it tries (and fails) to load a local DNS error page.

Seriously, WTF?

Oh, hello fragment of ZoneAlarm, the firewall I uninstalled.  What are you doing sucking up 100% of my CPU time?  <kill process>  Hey, everything works again.

Thanks Microsoft, and thanks ZoneAlarm!

You've been complaining quite a lot abou windows lately, it seems. Learn *nix and stop complaining. In the end you'll gain from it.

I won't be trusting those lies.  I've tried *nix, and here's what I've decided:

Windows works and is great until it breaks, at which point it's evil incarnate.
Unix never ever works until you've waded through four thousand inconsistant and out of date man files, sorted a hunded config files, and learned to compile, grep, make, grok and self-flagellate.

So one works until it breaks, one takes longer to config than I expect to be alive to use it.

I had an issue like that in 95 once.  Was even more fun though, instead of just not connecting to the internet, what happened was any time you used internet explorer or an internet explorer reliant program... the pc would reboot.  Opera fixed that problem... and a couple months and a format later it was back to normal.

Feeling Scared? ^_~

Just do as I. Use Windows 98. I've recieved that damned blaster worm fifteen times and it hasn't been able to infect me once! However, the system often crashes for some other reason! Damnit!

phreak97

theres a patch against the blaster worm (you should know that) so its not a problem for xp nemore.. use xp pro not home.. i think xp is better 'cept for its incompatability prob's... at least yes until it breaks.. format, reinstall, dont fill it with shit = alls good (use the blaster fix BEFORE you go online!!)
alot of the time reinstalling is less bother than fixing all the shit microsoft has come up with..

(btw do you know how to fix an xbox? [that other evil device microsoft thought of] :P )

Better yet have a hardware firewall. Much better than any patch MS could possibily release, and helps protect against the holes MS hasn't closed yet. As an additional point, a hardware firewall will never leave a fragment process on your system.  ;)

You really should've looked at the date that was posted: Sep 16 2003

Yeah, and frequently use Norton Ghost. After I installed ghost, I got addicted of using it frequently and also of telling people they should use ghost because it's cool :)
