Wireless Nerf PS2 Controller Problem

I have a wireless Nerf PS2 Controller (the soft kind). The receiver's light will turn on for one second as soon as the console is powered on and then will turn off and stay off. The controller itself will not work at all (the light won't light up when the buttons are pressed, therefore, the buttons aren't working.

Do you have any suggestions on what might be the problem? Do you have any websites with info on how a basic ps2 wireless controller or any wireless controller works?
