Hi.

This week i received my  CGA / EGA / YUV TO VGA,  did some tests but i was disappointed using component video cables. The image stayed with artifacts, blurred, dirt and small white balls appearing on the screen as if it had interference. This only happens when i use the component input, no matter the resolution 480i, 480p, 720p and no matter the resolution of the Display OUT of  CGA / EGA / YUV TO VGA 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 ... Using the VGA INPUT is fine no problems.

My priority is to use the component video input, I bought it for use only with PlayStation 2, GameCube and Wii, all using component video cables and resolution of 480i

Here are some pictures.

Component ->  CGA / EGA / YUV TO VGA -> VGA TV input

the image is blurred, the camera don´t show the artifacts and dirt.

Component direct to my TV component input

the image is fine, no dirt, no blurred, no artifacts

Component ->  CGA / EGA / YUV TO VGA -> VGA TV input

Look the artifacts and dirt and blurred arrow

Component direct to my TV component input

Using direct component to my tv the image is clean.

Anyone know why this happens? It is a problem with the component video input CGA / EGA / YUV TO VGA?

Tested with three different consoles and three component video cables and 2 different VGA  OUTPUT cables, the result was the same.

Tks

Hi imparanoic.

I don´t have HD BOX PRO, when i bought the CGA to VGA thought it was the same as the HD BOX, only cheaper. Now i have doubt the picture quality that HD BOX can provide input using component video.

My PS2 work with Scart RGB output, but my WII don´t work RGB, is NTSC US, If it worked I could use Sync Striper and use the RGBHV input

Thanks for the help

The cga scaler is known to have that HALO effect ,that's what you get with such a cheap product .

The hdbox pro is abetter product for connecting devices with component .

Check out the shmups forum, the hardware section for everything you need to know about the different scalers.

Thanks bigsanta for the info and links.

I will try this HD BOX, I'm trying to remove the sync of green on PS2 and connecting directly into RGBHV input. But for the Wii and GameCube I'll really need another converter.

Thanks for the help.

Update:

Here made the direct connection of the PS2 RGB and RGBS the CGA, using the sync pin #6 PS2, i got the same problem, artifacts, blocks, dirt, whatever....

Look inside of white rectangles.

I thought it was problem with Component Video Input, but is not. Even directly connected RGB -> RGB is the same problem, tomorrow il buy a new VGA cable, better than im using´now.

All I see is posterization from digitization of the signal. Its bound to happen going from analog to digital then back to analog again (and maybe digital yet again if you are using an LCD display).
