Combined Genesis / Turbografx - Pad

Hi!

I'd like to build a gamepad, that allows control over Genesis and Turbografx16 at once.

It shall be plugged to both machines at one, and when I push a switch on the controllpad, it will act as the controller for the according machine.

Thinking of a genesis-Pad with two plugs: One for TG16, one for Genesis. It got a switch on that pad: If switch is set to "Genesis"  I can play genesis, if i switch to TG16, I will be able to play TG16. with the same pad. Without unplugging.

Would this be possible? How about Turbo-Fire? Something to take care of?

Just wanted to share, maybe I get some good starting hints.
