I'm trying to mod my PCE Duo to output RGB while not cutting the case.

Lawrence's new mod advises using a DIN 8 connector. The end result should look like this.

I'm trying to locate a DIN 8 PCB mount that would be compatible with the existing 7 holes on the PCE PCB (5 Pins + 2 Ground).
Please refer to the attachment below for a very crude schematic of the dimensions.

I've only been able to find parts with 5 or 10mm spacing like this one.

Has anyone ever been able to find such a part?

Thanks for your help.

The ground pins are not the same spacing on the one I used, I ended up drilling new holes for them.

Lawrence, thanks for your reply.

However, I'm not too worried about the ground pins since I can bend them under the connector to connect to the existing holes.

My problem is with the other video signal pins. The holes do not match up at all.

It seems you did not have any issue with them with your connector, so can you please let me know where you got it?

Thanks in advance,

Where I got it won't help you at all, unless you're in Tokyo.  Now that I think about it, I had drilled new ground holes and cut off the other 3 new signal pins, and just soldered to the top rear of the connector instead (Worked great).  Therefore you only need 5 holes to line up...  Last I checked the DIN pinout was a standard, I'm surprised you're having trouble.

Maybe it's 'cause you refer to inches and mm in your first post?  Is your conversion accurate?  =)

Lawrence,

I was going to do exactly the same thing: cut off the 3 new signal pins and solder on top of them so that I would only have to align with the 5 existing holes.

I ordered some of these connectors I linked to online and noticed their pins did not align with the 5 existing holes.
I triple-checked the inches/mm measurements and they are correct.
So it seems that the pinout is standard, but the layout on the pcb is not.

Too bad you don't live in Tokyo anymore...
Do you have any spares that you could maybe sell me?

Thanks,

I was finally able to locate this part in the US.
Action-Electronics carries it under the reference PP-DIN-5500-8S.
It is exactly the same one than the original PCE part, except for the 3 extra pins and ground pins.

Hopefully this will help the 6 other people in the entire world interested in doing a clean mod.

I actually am one of those 6 people :)
And they do ship internationally :) Whoohoo !

Hmmm.. I have already ordered this part from a vendor in Sweden... but i haven't tried it out yet. If it doesn't fit, make that 7. 8)

Action electronics went out of business last year, someone know of another place that stocks the correct pin layout Din 8?

answer my own question, found the correct part on ebay! All the pins match except the grounding pins, which is easy enough to swap out with an original connector to fit.
