Re: annoying wavy lines on pc engine rgb mod with xrgb 2 plus

I believe it's either my cheap pc engine rgb (modified from cheapo ps1 cable with 8 pin din to jap 21 pin rgb) which is causing this, i am trying to wrap with aluminium foil tape to provide some shielding from Electrical/power supply interference, so far, only slight improvements.

My ps2/ps1 with schp1050 official rgb cable has no interference and US super nintendo with 21 pin rgb jpn has minimal interference,

can you suggest any other way apart from modifing a newer better quality ps1 cable for pc engine?

imparanoic

if have no choice but you remake a newer pc engine rgb cable from ps1, consider ixos (uk, possible the best) and monster (overrated, but has ok shielding) have sealed scart end connectors, ie, i can modify a scart cable if the sockets can be opened, any other alterntives? apart from the expensive sony scph1050 rgb 21 pin cable any other high quality cables out there?

What are you using for a video driver circuit? It's more likely to be the cause of the problem unless your cables are really bad or you're in an unusually noisy environment.

+1.  Perhaps the AC Adapter is going bad as well?  The mini-coax cable used by the official Sony cable does not need to be used in order to get a relatively noise free picture.  I have plenty of that cable at my disposal! ;)  Like tim said, it's likely to do with the RGB circuit, but the PC Engine systems are on the noisy side to begin with (NES toasters are much worse in this regard).  :'(

i am not sure what do you mean by 'video driver circuit'

i am using a xrgb2 plus, is this my 'video driver circuit', all i know that a comapny called gamedoctor based in hk, modded my pc engine to rgb with 8 pin din,

in regards to rgb on xrgb2  plus, it's fine on super famicom and ps2, maybe my cables are really bad/shite and you're in an unusually noisy environment a i have many wires lying every where

i don't seem to get any wavy lines when i plug in the standard composite, thus, it's unlikely to do with power

imparanoic

do you think copper foil wrap as additional sheilding will improve things?

Have you tried asking them about the problem?

imparanoic

they said that they can not see this problem, thus, i assuming the combination of cheapo cable and too many power supplies around is causing this,

imparanoic

sorted, crystal clear rgb, my crap old tv was the problem, now i have changed to bravia 3 sony tv, excellent

imparanoic

i note that the colour seems to be very vivid, may even be over saturated, compared to snes (i am aware that pce colour palette is one of the richest within the 8/16 bit era), i will adjust the setting on xrgb2 plus, another point, considering pce has cd rom, has anyone sucessful modded a digital output?, considering is possible on a snes, surely some wicked/talented modder has sucessfully a pce?

imparanoic

hi.

can anyone tell me the optimal settings for pc engine (rgb mod) as i am getting slight dark pics, colours are slightly too vivid

does anyone know how to acess special menu screen ti adjust ntsc dot clock and manual?
