scrunched video when using rgb output from SNES

I recently got a CVS287 rgb->yuv converter, a 3rd-party Gamecube RGB scart cable, and a separate scart box that splits off the Audio Out channels (which I have modded to output Audio In) so I could hook up my SNES using the component connections on my LDC TV. (I'm in North America, and all of my stuff is NTSC)

The video quality is excellent, but there's one problem: My TV (a Magnavox 19mf337b/27) is interpreting the 240p output from my SNES as the top 240 lines of a 480i signal.

I'm assuming the reason for my TV not interperting the signal correctly is that there are very few devices (if any at all) that output a 240p signal over yuv component cables.

Is it possible to mod the converter so the TV knows what to do with the signal, or is there some setting in the service menu I can change that will allow the TV to display the 240p signal correctly but still let other component video devices display fine?

Sounds like your TV is "challenged."  :-\

What results do you have when connecting a different system via component that outputs in double-strike mode ("240p")?

Here are some examples:
-Wii via component video running a SNES or NES virtual console game
-PS2 via component playing a double-strike PS1 game (virtually all PS1 games most of the time)

Hence, there are a number of game systems that will output double-strike NTSC via component that you can test (PS2, GameCube, Wii).  More than likely Magnavox is letting you down...  :'(

Or there might be a picture size/aspect ratio setting that could be adjusted on your TV.

My Wii displays NES games just fine over Component.
My Wii displays NES & SNES games just fine over Component when the Wii is set to 480p mode. When the wii is set to 480i mode, I get the exact same problem.

And it's note a picture size setting problem either. All the setting show the same problem.

Everything works without a problem when I use Composite or S-Video

Edit:
And it turns out my TV doesn't support 240p over component at all.
Any suggestions for something cheap (not much over $100) that can output the signal in 480i or 480p?

This is an inexpensive (<$60 shipped) converter that might work for you:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Arcade-RGBs-CGA-YUV-to-VGA-31K-CONVERTER-Board_W0QQitemZ170323113465QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item170323113465&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Connect RGB or component to the unit, and connect the PC output to the PC input on your TV.  Furthermore, with this device, you wouldn't be required to use the CVS287, just build an adapter for your gamecube RGB scart cable to connect to the RGB input on the device.

OR this device ($100 shipped):

Connect your gamecube scart cable and get 720p HDMI to your TV!

Thanks.

I'll probably end up getting the one with SCART input, assuming it will let my TV switch aspect ratios, as some N64 games have true widescreen modes.
