Question about a Mishibishi XC-3730c crt monitor

I just recently purchased one of these and the front control panel is missing.

I was informed that if I use a serial cable and connect it to the rear remote  control port that i should be able to use that to turn the monitor on.

I was curious if any of you have any knowledge about these things, and tell me if that should work.
